If it isn't, then I sure as hell don't know what the purpose of trading Fister was. In fact, I don't think I'll ever know. What an idiotic trade.

Dude, we get it, you don't like the trade. Almost nobody does. It doesn't mean you have to mention it every minute with pointless posts.

Good, Nathan is better than Wilson and as an added bonus isn't the most annoying personality in MLB.

It's going to be a very tough call deciding whether it's worse watching a reliever who takes forever to make a damn pitch or a reliever who flaps his lips before every pitch.

Not diggin the last couple of deals. The Tigers are a worse team right now than the team that blew it in the playoffs.

So did we seriously dump Fister so that we could find a way to fit Nathan into the payroll? This is such ****ing crap.

What this tells me is that with respect to Fister (who had 2 years left on his contract), DD had little intention of retaining him beyond the time remaining on his deal and essentially traded Fister for Nathan, Robbie Ray, Ian Krol and Steve Lombardozzi. I'm curious to see what kind of money they ponied up for Nathan, but I think it's a good deal provided Nathan is able to stay relatively good over the next couple of years.

Pointless posts? If you don't like discussion of the moves that the Tigers are making, maybe you should look elsewhere or use the ignore feature.

So in effect, we traded Fister for Nathan and 3 "expansion draft" type players?

Just because you don't like the trade doesn't make Robbie Ray a "expansion draft type player".

It sucks to see Fister go, but given that they've just signed Nathan to a 2 year deal, it makes a lot more sense than it did last night.

You are certainly in the running for most hyperbole this offseason. I think it is a safe assumption that the Fister deal has little to do with the Nathan signing.

Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 34s

Closer Brian Wilson informed the #Tigers on Monday that he was going in a different direction, and is in heavy discussions with the #Dodgers

It does appear that Wilson was their number one choice.

I'm surprised we don't know the amount of money Nathan is getting yet. I'm assuming 2/26.

Same goes for The World Champions as of Today. Add the Indians to a far worse team even though Unlock the Shrine predicted they would take the division!

Sounds like he got spooked by this boards comments, lol.

While I scratched my head a little with the Fister trade last night, I think DD is one of the more astute baseball men around right now and I believe he knows more than anyone else on this forum. I would rather he be the GM of the Tigers and not anyone on this forum including me. That being said, I have less confidence in the scouts that the Tigers employ....again, they are more trust worthy then the arm-chair scouts on this forum.

By all means, have fun dissecting the trade and the Nathan signing, but if we were any good at scouting or being a GM, we would be running a team. As a fan, this is some of the fun following a team. In due time we will see if DD and the scouts were correct.

Give the trade a couple of years before before passing judgement.

Can't wait to see that we're paying Nathan 13m/year to pitch 50 innings while Fister gets 6-7m to be the 9th best starter in baseball over the last three years. Unless Dombrowski steals Bautista like he just had Fister stolen from him, nothing can salvage this offseason for me.

Well, I guess we won't see you around all season, as you have seemingly given up all hope for the coming season in the first week of December. Maybe in 2015, eh?

His ego would get smothered in Detroit. Good riddance to the *******.

EDIT: Talking about Wilson.

That's a bit of a ridiculous way to look at it, unless you are giong to throw all the roster changes into the equation.

Would it be fair to look at it as Fister, Benoit, & Veras for Nathan, Krol, Ray and Lombardozzi? Why not, its essentially what you are doing.

The Indians lost Kazmir and maybe Ubaldo and will replace them with full seasons from Kluber and Salazar who are both great. They also upgraded their OF.

So no, they haven't really gotten worse at all.

Disagree...good/great starting pitching is the "holy grail". See Atlanta Braves, Bobby Cox era.

I wish we still had Fister, but it's been clear for two years that Smyly is a guy DD had to get into the rotation. He could be a star. DD surely thinks so. And regardless of how good or bad we have been the past three years, we haven't been good enough, plain and simple. I don't know how all these moves will turn out, but I like that we are trying to get a little younger, a little faster and (I suspect) much stronger in the pen.

Look, we have three dominant starting pitchers. If they can't get it done in the playoffs, we don't win a World Series, period. It won't matter how great our fourth or fifth starters are.

This year in the playoffs, we failed to produce runs for Verlander on two occasions and we failed to protect leads for Scherzer on two occasions. We lost all four games. That's where we need to improve, and I think that's where we are improving.

I still agree with this, but hope the good deals keep coming to make us better. As of right now we are still worse IMO. Plenty of time left.

Kluber is hardly "great" and certainly no better than the Ubaldo they had for the last 4 months of the season this year. But yes, Salazar is a stud. I still expect a bit of regression to the mean from that team, though. Who's their closer?
