Because they can cut him in March and not have to pay his entire contract. Something like 180K so I guess I should say only a small amount is guaranteed. Same thing that happened with Boesch.

Not the same at all.

3 names mentioned....

Lombardozzi = 24th man on the roster. Not much upside.

Robbie Ray = A top 10 prospect on the Tigers. But I think Casey Crosby here. Need about 5-6 of these types to turn into 1 Doug Fister.

Drew Storen = okay. But not a strikeout machine.....which means imo not a stud reliever.

We need much more than these 3 for Fister. Exchange Rendon for Lombardozzi and we might have something.

Since when did they get Storen?

Lombardozzi is no better than Santiago, Krol sucks and Ray is a year away from the big leagues. Just doesn't make sense.

Jerry Crasnick ‏@jcrasnick 2m

Baseball America ranked LHP Robbie Ray as #nationals No. 5 prospect. He had 160 K's in 142 minor league IP. #tigers

I can't believe we didn't at least get Rendon. 2 years of Doug Fister at a bargain price relative to some of this money being thrown around for mediocre pitching in FA has to be worth more than that.

Nope, there's gotta be more. Winter meetings haven't even began. There's more.

This will make sense.

Such an awful, awful move. Why not dump Porcello for that instead of Fister? I've never been more perplexed by a DD move. Doesn't make any sense. One good prospect, a reliever and a utility infielder is a terrible return for a very, very good pitcher.

That's not a good baseball trade. The second of such trades this winter. We should be asking ourselves how low of a payroll they are targeting.

Even if we are clearing salary space for another move, this is still an inexcusably poor return for Fister. I find it impossible to believe none of the other 28 teams in baseball were willing to offer a better package than this.

I hate this trade. It looks like a salary dump. I hope they plan on doing something good with money saved on the Fielder and Fister deals.

Before you torch Dave, keep in mind, he is clearing space for something else..........This is move one in this chess game....

He's clearing $6 million for something else? What the **** could he get for $6 million that's an upgrade on Fister?

Remember...Fister had some pretty crazy *** games the last couple years.

But yeah, I'm kind of disappointed that's all we could get.

That is not an excuse to get ripped off so badly in a trade. Fister has significant value. This trade in completely indefensible.

Dombrowski did a fine job making the Tigers worse today. That is one of the worst hose jobs I have seen in baseball in the last 10 years. What was he thinking?
