Parking at Spartan Stadium

Recommended Posts

Hi all... a quick question for those who know the MSU tailgate scene pretty well.

I will be in East Lansing on Saturday to tailgate, though mainly in the earlier portion of the day. My hope is to be out there by around 9:30/10 AM and stay until around 2:00/2:30. I am meeting up with an old friend who will be tailgating, but plan to watch the game in the Metro area (I know that with that leaving time, I'll miss at least the first quarter and maybe more). Anyway, my question...

Where are some good places to park that will still have spots available around my arrival time but won't be bogged with tailgating tents/etc. when I want to leave? I don't mind a bit of a walk and don't expect to park for free, so that's not a worry. My main concern is a navigable exit without making life completely inconvenient for those around me. Any help would be appreciated!

For what it's worth, I hearing the hamster cage should be my first place to check.

I can't really answer this, but I thought I'd share something I just saw:

No game day parking on Michigan State's Munn Field for U-M game | MLive.com

EAST LANSING -- Due to heavy rainfall--and the prospect of more--Michigan State University will not allow game day parking on Munn Field Saturday.

The MSU Police Department announced the closure Thursday afternoon. Rain fell steadily on East Lansing beginning early Thursday morning and continued throughout the day, with more precipitation forecast for Thursday night, Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

MSU's campus could be even busier than usual on Saturday, when the Spartans host arch-rival Michigan in a 3:30 p.m. college football showdown.

Campus police advised that alternate public parking will be available at the former Michigan State Police headquarters site, which is adjacent to Harrison Road directly west of the Breslin Center.

Lot 83, located on Service Road just east of Harrison Road, also will have space available for public parking, as will Lot 91, which is on Service Road just west of Hagadorn Road. The parking fee for Lot 91 includes shuttle service to Spartan Stadium from the MSU Clinical Center, which is directly west of the lot.

MSU's commuter lot, at the corner of Farm Lane and Mount Hope Road, will be open to the public for free parking on Saturday. A round-trip shuttle ticket can be purchased there for $4.

Campus police suggest fans arrive at MSU early on Saturday due to parking and traffic changes. Lots open at 9 a.m.

Munn Field's 11.2 acres house hundreds of vehicles on Michigan State football Saturdays. It is home to many tailgates, although alcohol is not permitted on its premises. The field is used throughout the school year for intramural sports such as football and soccer.

MSU police last closed Munn Field to parking on Oct. 19, just hours before the Spartans kicked off against Purdue.
