Do we need his bat, or can we live with Inglesias full time at shortstop and a different LF option - such as Castellanos or Dirks ?

Peralta wants to return and says he would be open to playing LF. I think I can get onboard with Peralta playing 2B. My question is, which Peralta do we get? 2013? 2012? 2011?

Absolutely not. Let him walk...he's a cheater. For several reasons I would tell him good bye.

I'd love him as a bench bat or a guy who can let Miggy rest but he'll get a starting job next year.

I don't want him starting in the outfield. Start Kelly or Dirks out there before you start him out there.

I would bring him back.... still not 100% on Iglesias to be honest. I think hes the guy but his health has been an issue so far. Peralta can be a compliment to don kelly. Based on the playoffs it looks like he's passed dirks anyway.

Only way I think the Tigers sign Peralta is Infante signs with another team. If that happens, then Peralta could play second base. It would be a much better option than Worth or Perez.

3b with Miggy or VMart going to 1B. Eventually Castellanos replaces at 3b. They need to bring in a speedy corner outfielder for LF.

I don't necessarily want him to leave, but I dont see a realistic spot for him on the roster. We need Iggy's glove at short, and I don't think he's a viable option in left field.

I'l be honest, I would not mind if the Tigers could keep Peralta, but frankly he's just not a good fit going forward for the Tigers and here's why.

First, Peralta made $6M for 2013 and it seems like decent shortstops are going for around $10M or more per year. Right now the Tigers are probably racking their brains trying to figure out if Santiago is worth around $2M to keep for 2014 so I don't think the Tigers see Peralta at $10M or even at $6M as a back up/insurance policy is a good business move.

Secondly, Peralta never has really "cashed in" in his career and at 31yrs old and the most he's made is $6M he needs to get a good solid contract to make sure he's good for the next couple years. To this end Peralta and his agent would be nuts to say "Sure, I'll play part time for a 1-2 year deal with the Tigers for say $4-$6M" when he might get $8-$12M for 2-4 years with another team.

Third, if it's a question of Peralta having to rebuilding his value if no team is willing to put a good multi year deal on the table this current off season, having Peralta sign a 1 year cheap pillow deal as a part time player with the Tigers would likely be the kiss of death. Peralta would be better playing full time for 1 year with Seattle or Houston and showing the league what he can still do on a full time basis and then seeing if he can get that $10M-ish per year multi year deal than prove he's an awsome part time player worth of a Raburn-esque 2 yrs for a total of $4.85M with a team option worth $3M or a 100K buy out for a 3rd year.

Fourth, the Tigers will have to be careful where they spend their money this off season and over paying for a bench player is simply not in the cards for 2014. Let me ask you this question, would you rather have Iglesias starting at SS and Castellanos in LF and either have Peralta on the bench or Joe Smith available from the pen? Because that's probably how the Tigers organization is looking at Peralta's situation too...

I'd love to have him back at SS. I don't think Iglesias will ever be good enough to start every day in MLB. If not at SS, then no, I don't want him back.

He's already good enough at SS, if he can stay healthy.

2011: 235/285/269 in AAA

2012: 269/321/310 in AAA

2013: 202/262/319 in AAA

No, I don't think he's good enough to start. You have to at least be able to hit a little, and he can't. At all. And before someone references his ridiculously fluky BABIP inflated numbers in the majors this year, he was terrible after getting traded to the Tigers, and had a 35 day stretch from mid-Sept to mid-Oct where he hit .080.

No amount of defense makes up for that. His UZR was also only 4.1 this year, despite it taking three years to normalize, that's not a good start.

Iggy is as good of a defensive SS one will ever find. As an offensive SS, he will fill the bill if he stays healthy. I don't resign Peralta if Castellanos (sp) is ready for LF. I'd concentrate this off season on making the bullpen stronger.

I have to agree to some extent. I like Iglesias and I hope he can hit improve his hitting, but there has to be some balance. His defense only goes so far. I'd say a .625 OPS is probably the low end of what you can accept. Maybe I'm wrong though. Brendan Ryan put up 2 WAR with an OPS in the .570s.

The team needs to get younger and faster. Sorry, but JP will want more than $7 million a year (I would guess) and the Tigers have to consider what to do with Scherzer, Fister, V-Mart, Infante, have huge contracts with Prince, Miggy, JV and Torii and will likely have to pay Austin, and Avila more. Next year the team has to at least platoon Castellanos. JP just doesn't fit unless they don't sign Infante and make JP the second baseman. I would love to see Brandon Phillips there instead. What has to be given up for him? How much salary do the Reds eat? Can his ego handle batting 7th or 8th?

I'd love him back, but he's going to be targeted by the Yankees, IMO... I don't know if I'd want to outbid them.

You only bring Jhonny back if you can dump Prince off on some schmuck team. They can then move Miggy back to first, Jhonny at 3rd and Jose at short. There is no chance the Tigers go into next season with Peralta as the starting left fielder.

I'd kill to get Phillips to play second base. Send the Reds Porcello and get that done.

Infante is gone; he's getting big money from someone (not Detroit); Perlata will play 2nd, and will be insurance in case Jose bombs, or Miggy goes down.

Why does everyone think that Peralta is going to play 2B when he hasn't played a single inning there?
