DD took exception to the insinuation that he didn't do his due diligence. That is bad for PR if it gets out and fans actually believe it- hadn't seen him like that before.

Dombrowski just busted out a sheet of paper and showed Nathan all the young pitchers he inquired about with other GMs while shopping Fister.

Matthew B. Mowery ‏@matthewbmowery 8m

DD on Fister deal: "I felt like we did tremendous due diligence. If someone didn't know if he was available, they probably didn't have the talent to match up."

Matthew B. Mowery ‏@matthewbmowery 7m

DD: "The one thing I would say, we did for sure did our due diligence." Wants the writers to produce names of GMs that said that.

To clarify, I'm talking about the actual projections generated by "steamer" and posted on fangraphs.

Kinsler being projected for a 110 wRC+ when he hasn't done that in 2 years and a 3.6 WAR in 146 games is a bit curious.

Perhaps. But he did have a 105 wrc+ just last year.

But things like wrc and war were not part of what I used when adding up the entire team. I kept it bland and just used obp and slg. His 760 projected ops is right in line with what he did the past two years.

The projected improvement in base running and defense would be a nice plus, and isn't all that unexpected based on his career numbers.

I bet the Royals don't even finish over .500 next year. That team is terrible. The Indians are the only team to worry about. If Salazar and Kluber give full seasons of the same performance they put in last year, they are very dangerous.

I'm not too scared of them. They still have to replace Jiminez and Kazmir, and they played over their heads as a team winning a high number of walk-offs. I think they are an 85-88 win team at best.

Dombrowski, for what it's worth: "I would think that we would not be involved in the big [free-agent market]."

So, is Dombrowski lying once again or is he serious this time? Does anyone even take any stock at all in this comment?

Jeter has such calm eyes, you just know he would be a tender and caring lover.

I worry about you when your wife and kids leave town to visit the grandparents.

Wow, that's a lot from DD.

They wont. Most writers are weasels.

It really is...i'll be interested to see how that went down. If he had a smile on his face or if he was glowering Richard Nixon/Bill Clinton style

No! He's a master at non committal comments and talking out of both sides of his mouth.

Dombrowski: "We're looking at Nick Castellanos as our third baseman. Miguel Cabrera is going to first base for us." So that's now set.

I hope Nick is ready for this.

And I hope we have a new left fielder along with some more relief pitching.

Sounds like DD is upset at fan reaction to the Fister trade eh? Very unusual seeing DD like that.

I think you already know the answer here. How many times have we heard him say things like this?

It did seem like DD was bothered the other day about the negative press. And this was educated opinions coming with some decent complaints about the trade. Not just ordinary fans mad about trading Granderson ala 2009.

Nothing to do with being weasels, You won't be getting any information from people if you start giving there names away when they specifically ask you not too.

Calling someone a liar when you know they can't defend themselves is just childish. DD made his point saying the people who had players he wanted knew Fister was available.

Just reading this as at an internet 2D level...it reads similar to his response to the season ticket holders who he asked how he was supposed to trade Higginson or Dean Palmer (or whoever it was).

Yeah, I take no stock in that comment at all. I remember just a couple months ago when he said they weren't making anymore trades at the deadline and then we got Iglesias a few hours later.

Tony Paul ‏@TonyPaul1984 10m

#Tigers Dombrowski "guarantees" there's nothing imminent with Choo.

I do believe him here though, I thought Choo would sign quickly, but I think he's going to wait until the winter meetings now, no matter who he signs with, including the Tigers.

Dombrowski seems to think when he made the Fister trade people would appreciate the move just like past trades. Doesn't seem like he thought the overwhelming opinion was that he got fleeced. No GM would want to hear that.

Can never take too much from what he says, but if he is truthful about his plans going forward I think the Tigers will struggle to make the playoffs.

He mentioned in the initial press conference that he knew people wouldn't like it b/c you are trading a known player for an unknown. That comes with the job. And people are entitled to their opinion about whether or not it was a good trade.

I don't think he anticipated writers suggesting that he rushed into the deal or didn't do enough research on it, call enough people, etc. They are, in effect, calling him out as a professional for not performing the minimum expected duties for his job.

From Ben Badler/BA

Ben Badler ‏@BenBadler 40m

Yes. Always thought he moved off the position too early. RT @B_Sakowski_PG do you think Castellanos can end up fringe-average at 3B?

I still don't like the trade but it was nice seeing Dave get fired up.

If only he had finished with "And Keith Law can go **** himself!"

I think this is the first time has been accused of that. I don't remember it happening before. I can see why he would be irritated.

Everybody knew he would say something like: "We are always looking to improve ourselves, but I'm happy with the team as it is". It means nothing, but I also wouldn't assume that he'll do something big. This might be like 2009 where he traded Granderson/Jackson and then used the money to make smaller moves - Damon, Valverde. Or maybe it's just bluffing? Or maybe he's waiting for Ilitch step in at the last minute and sign Cano. Who knows?
