Dexter: The Final Season

Recommended Posts

I mean, its meant to be a campy, southern show about vampires. Its not supposed to be not ridiculous. If that's not your thing, I completely understand, but it probably wouldn't work if they tried to not be ridiculous.

As I wrote, it went from ridiculous to more ridiculously stupid.

It's Thursday and I just watched Sunday's episode, which pretty much sums up this season. Glad there are only 4 episodes left, it's becoming a chore to watch.

The only thing that could save this season is a Hannah/Deb lesbian scene.

Deb isn't particularly hot with her mannish face and emaciated body.

And her sewer mouth. A Hannah-(ghost of)Lila scene instead.

So, we are 3 episodes away from the finale and it looks like our big showdown is going to involve some villain they literally just now introduced? Weak, very weak. There is just not enough happening while there is also too much happening. Dexter shoudl be on the run or under suspicion or in some type of danger. I should be on the edge of my seats for the final 3 episodes of a show like Dexter.

I do love Hannah though.

It's mind boggling to me that the writers aren't focussing solely on Dexter, and have introduced several meaningless subplots. I really think it's a sign that the writers are out of ideas, and they are finishing the series by throwing as much **** on the wall as they can.

In particular, the Mazuka reuniting with his unknown daughter subplot might be one of the weirdest things I've ever seen on a TV show if nothing else comes out of it.

Sounding like my decision to stay away from the show this season a few episodes in was a good one.

It was. The way things are going, it looks like Dexter, Hannah, and Harrison will flee to Argentina to live happily ever after, and Debra along with the rest of Miami Metro will go on as usual. If it ends up this way, the series finale will be very anti-climatic and very disappointing.

No kidding!

Hey Doc, it looks like your psychopathic son, the one that nobody ever knew about or heard of before, the one who died in a fire 25 years ago, the one whose body was so badly burned it couldn't be identified? Well, guess what? Surprise, surprise! He's still alive!

I told my wife next week I'm just going to wait for Hannah to appear on screen looking dynamite in a super tight dress and just pause it for 50 minutes. I think I would enjoy it more.

(It's a good thing my wife throws like a girl, because that remote could have really hurt.)

Nothing can save this season now. Even if they were to pull off a great ending, they sure made us sit through a big pile of steaming **** to get to it.

Yep, agreed with the above sentiments. The final season could have included Deb turning in her brother and/or Dexter on the lam and/or someone from Miami Metro like Quinn or Bautista hunting him down or someone from the FBI like that guy from season 3 hunting him down. But of all the formidable opponents to Dexter in the series so far, the final season is really going to end with Dexter's foils being an English senior citizen female, a guy from out of nowhere who looks like Ryan Gosling, and a low-class P.I.? And all these domestic scenes of small talk around kitchens is boring as hell. This is a terrible season, way below Season 6 even. It is almost unwatchable - it is like exchanging Red Wings-Penguins playoff games for preseason games between the Leafs and the Florida Panthers.

LOL on the Ryan Gosling thing. I think I said this about 10 times before I was told to shut up about it already.

I sincerely believe the writers decided how they wanted the series to end, then had to put together 11 episodes of filler.

My biggest gripe with what Dexter has become is that their writing has been so freaking lazy. They develop a character for 3-4 episodes then kill them off. And there's no fluidity to the season. There's a detective specifically looking into Hannah McKay and leaves the house after a little white lie? Miami Metro hires a new intern with prior experience at a breastaurant? A week ago we thought Zach was going to be a huge part of this narrative, teaching him the code and everything. So what was his point in the series? Was there even a point?

We're seriously 3 episodes away from the finale and this season just feels like a boring season. There's no momentum building. No story line to grab a hold of. It's just Vogel, her son and Dexter. And even MORE anti-climatic -- we KNOW it's the last season and they're talking about moving to Argentina. What a freaking bummer.

The realism of the show has flown right out the window with how they handled Deb's killing of LaGuerta. She just randomly takes a 6 month hiatus, admits to killing her and nobody is suspicious? Everything has just become too easy. Quinn, you want to be named Captain? How about following up on what Deb is saying. Dexter puts a 40-year-old picture in the system and knows who he's looking for after 30 seconds? Please! They don't have to work for anything anymore.

I just watched an episode, not the latest, the one before it where Zach dies and this show is dog vomit now. No tension. No humor. Tired characters repeating past behaviors.

Then when you compare that to the last season of Breaking Bad, which is on at the same time, it makes it seem even worse.

Dexter should have ended at least two seasons ago. I am watching it until the end because of my previous time invested, but I can wait 11 days to see it and it doesn't bother me.

Yah, Breaking Bad is making it look much worse. That's the blueprint on how to do this(though its too late for Dexter to be at that level). I also just finished watching the final season of Damages the other day and that was a very well done final season that Dexter should have tried to imitate. A lot of things from the past were tied up, there was great tension and it had a focused plot that pretty perfectly wrapped things up.

How the hell are they going to end this thing now? I'm clueless? It almost doesn't matter.

Sorry, with a show about death........I want something final............not just someone moving on to Argentina.

By the way, I don't think any show will ever top Six Feet Under's gut-punch of an ending, but if any does, it will be Breaking Bad.

Oh god that was dreadful. 40 minutes of goodbyes, quiet talks about feelings, breakups, back togethers, Masuka's daughter high (is she a relative of one of the writers and desperately needed 4 episode credits to kickstart her career?). And could the way Hannah was spotted have been any more of a cliche? Then a scene at the end to shock us, but involving a non-sympathetic character. The only potential payoff in the final two episodes, and it would be small consolation, would be seeing Quinn and Bautista's reaction to Deb getting exposed.
