Well technically no, right... the play was whistled dead before the puck ever went in. Not that I think there is a conspiracy, that's dumb.

Yes, bad choice of words on my part.

Because no way the Hawks were just a bit better team, eh. I mean, you trash their roster and their GM but then say that the OT loss in a 7-game series to the #1 seed after beating the #2 seed is due to being mental cowards. You really think professional players spend the night before a big game in their bathrooms vomiting from nerves?

I don't care about any of that. You blow a 3-1 lead to anyone and you choked. They played like garbage on Saturday night, fell apart Monday and tried to make up for it tonight with a great effort, but it's still a choke. Tired of the Red Wing apologists. It's a choke. They had the Blackhawks talking to themselves after game 4, they had them reeling and they let them off the hook on Saturday with an absolutely miserable performance. I'm mad as hell right now. If it had been a back and forth series and they lose in game 7 OT, it's easier to take, but not this.

And yes, they need to do some tweaking with this roster. Too many overpaid players on this team. Only because of injuries did they finally start playing those young guys in the playoffs, and most of them paid off, they might not even get to the second round withuout Andersson, Brunner and Nyquist playing like they did, and you know as well as I do, in other seasons those guys don't even see the ice....the injuries actually benefitted the Wings this playoffs. Carlo's making 2.8 million next year. Franzen is making 5 million next year, Samuelsson 3 million and another year of Bertuzzi. These are terrible contracts, they are desperate contracts and those kind of stupid contracts need to stop. I can't really blame them for Franzen, but he is half the player he used to be. He used to be a force, not you don't even know he's out there half the time. There is cap room, get Datsyuk a scoring wing, for crying out loud.

Don't call me spoiled, I thought they'd be out of this series in 4 or 5 games, but I didn't expect them to choke away a 3-1 lead. They should have won this. Should have been over Monday. That was their chance.

And I do think Chicago gooned it up in this series and got away with it. I think they'll do the same against L.A. - and get away with it. But the Wings could have overcome that by showing up last Saturday night..........they got caught napping, they didn't want it enough. They blew leads in games all season, it was something we hadn't seen here in 25 years. This time it was a series. They let up. Can't do that against anyone.....ever in the playoffs.

Wings fans after beating the Ducks: anything after this is gravy.

Wings fans after losing to the Hawks: yeah, we got a lot of gravy, but it was ****ing lumpy.

Glad they are done with the West. I don't think the East will be easier (I think with the type of team the Wings have it will be tougher actually because they aren't physical enough right now). But maybe playing most of the games in their time zone will be better for everyone and should they get back to the Finals vs. a West coast team, those games would be at 8:30 and not 10:30.

Ridiculous. Chicago was the better team. Period. End of story. The Wings got lucky to go up 3-1 but their luck ran out in the 3rd period Monday.

Yeah, I think that pretty much sums it up. The only reason they were up 3-1 was because the Hawks choked it up in game 4. They got their **** back together and beat a much weaker team to advance. Nothing to be ashamed of there.

What makes the Hawks better than the Wings is that they have more players who play at a consistently high level than the Wings do. Detroit can outplay any team for any one game, but they can't do it consistently. It's now up to Holland to get the right players here who can do it consistently.

Watched the game on DVR. Boo.

Never expected the Wings to make the second round, let alone a game 7. We have some good young players. Nyquist had a hell of a game. But Brendan Smith repeatedly chokes in his own zone.

Big story this series was the refs, I thought. Penalty shot was the most inexplicable, inexcusable call I've ever seen. On the waved off goal, the refs clearly missed a trip of Zetterberg as he carried the puck out of the zone. It was a clear case of the Hawks stealing the advantage from the Wings by the trip and should have been called a penalty immediately, whistle blown, no Hawks rush, no Hawks shot, no coincidental minors. And let's not mention the body slam of Filppula that put him out for the game.

I'm usually pretty candid when I see my team commit a penalty or get away with one but it did seem to me throughout that the Hawks got a a lot of calls to go their way. I'll always remember this as the series the refs stole from the Wings on a phantom penalty shot.

Hawks had 4 power plays tonight, the Wings had 2. Slewfoot that knocked out a 2nd line Wings player went unpenalized. The no-goal was whistled dead 3 seconds before the puck went in, before Hjallmasrson even had the puck. Don't get me wrong, I'd screaming if that happened against the Wings, but NBCSP and Yahoo's PuckDaddy were blowing it out of proportion like the travesty of the century. Like really, you are going to make SUCH a big deal about a call of coincidental penalties? Maybe Hjallmarson should have been penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct for blasting the puck a couple of seconds after the whistle had been blown, ha. The play wasn't such a big deal in the Canadian media (although considered important and controversial).

Wings played the Hawks even in the 1st period. Hawks controlled the 2nd. The Wings completely took the game to the Hawks by just as big of a margin in the 3rd period. Even game before the OT goal.. Pretty even series before the OT goal, slight edge to Chicago.

Yes, I remember that slew foot now. Another penalty that should have been called. It just seemed to me that the refs were playing by old NHL rules when calling Chicago penalties, but were holding Detroit players to the exacting standards of the new NHL. I thought the refereeing was simply inexplicable and indefensible.

I watch CBC whenever I can and it's amazing when I read here and on twitter what is being said on NBC SPorts. It's like they're both watching different games.

In order for the Wings to have won the series Chicago would have had to not play their best. THey didn't play their best for 3 games. The Wings right there with them in 2 of the losses. What sucks about game 7 OT is that both teams can claim a play here or there as the difference.

Has anyone heard anything about Filpula / injury? He went down hard on his back on the Shaw take down and was seen limping off to the dressing room in a bad. Obviously doesn't matter now from the game standpoint, but I'd sure hate to have it turn out to be a serious injury.

If its any consolation, the Kings are going to destroy the Hawks. Kings for the Cup!

I'm primarily a baseball fan but playoff hockey is by far the most exciting of all the major sports.

He was on crutches ASAP, I think Babcock said he'd be ready in time for camp next year (whose camp though?) which makes me think it is serious enough to effect his offseason.

Valtteri Filppula suffered a high-ankle sprain in Game 7 on Wednesday night.

The forward who looked to be slewfooted by Andrew Shaw prior to his exit, lasted 1:28 before leaving. He'll be re-examined once the swelling goes down. The 29-year-old amassed nine goals and eight assists in 41 games during the regular season and had six points in the playoffs. He's an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Hard to refute that.

It was a great series.

We could have used him last night. Might have made the difference.

While the officiating was pretty bad for the most part, Wings had 3 chances to put this away and didn't. Pavel and Franzen were not very good the last 3 games and Hank only showed up in game 7 after being gone the previous 2 games. Can't rely on the 3rd and 4th line to be your best all the time. I thought the line juggling last night was great after Val went down. Moving Nyquist, Andersson, and Brunner around with Pavel and Hank worked wonders for stretches. Sadly the big boys never stepped up for the Wings late in the series.

Feel bad for Filppula but they need to let him go. No production at all this year and just not worth the money. It's like Hudler all over again. Cut ties, move on, and let the kids earn their wings.

All things considered going into this series, they played well but just ran out of gas against a better team. Even played a man down for all of game 7 and lost perhaps their 3rd best D-Man in the first round and still took the Hawks to 7. Holland has to add a couple of pieces and make sure Datsyuk doesn't split for Russia. Moving to the East helps a bunch and they will be right back again next year.

Right, because as we saw last night the loss of Filppula may have been a case of addition by subtraction, as it meant more minutes for Nyquist, who played well.

Since the Wings lost in OT anyways, I almost wish that damn shot with 1:47 to go had counted. Because all that talk of that today is overshadowing how well the Wings played in the 3rd period and how close they came to knocking off the Hawks. If Walkom hadn't done anything and the goal stood, people would be talking of the Wings' valiant effort coming within a whisker of knocking off the heavy favorite. Many people before Game 7 said the Wings were done and had no chance and that Game 6 "was really Game 7" but they were wrong. The Wings had just as much chance as winning as the Hawks. As what I REALLY regret is no Wing getting open when Zetterberg was doing all that wondrous zigging and zagging with the puck in the corner of the Hawks end with about 3 minutes to go. A pass and a rifle there, man, THAT would have been a dream ending to the series.

Don't forget DeKeyser. The Wings have an exciting group of young players to build around.
