No big deal. The president's cohort is just a convicted felon.

He worked for Trump for less than three months and was fired when they found out what he had done.

Literally every ******* person in Washington knew what a slimeball Manafort was.... there's a zero percent chance Trump did not. Especially given their already existing friendship

Manafort was fired when they found out about his issue with money laundering. He told them it wasn't true, they didn't believe him.

Almost everyone in Washington knew about his ties with shady folks in Moscow and Kiev prior to him even being hired. It was a topic in the media hen he was hired. And the fact that they hired him anyway, even when he volunteered to work for free, didnt set off any alarm bells.

That says a lot about Trump's judgment.

Nah, he was just a good guy who got caught up with a bad Ukrainian crowd.

Wishcasting among the Trump fans.   Its not a viable strategy.

The only good strategy for the GOP is to take account of the fact that they have to get rid of him and then execute a plan to do so.  Then take stock of who is left.  Figure out who has to be made an example of.

Mitt's relative at the top of the RNC has to be put out on a metaphorical ice floe and set adrift or worse.

When the press found out he was done... and his right hand man who was also reported to be in on that stayed on.

I still can't get over how nobody even thought to ask why he wanted to work for free...

Was the guy who worked for Putin (Flynn) supposed to vet the guy who worked for Deripaska (Manafort)?

Was the guy who wanted to build a $50m condo for Putin supposed to be on the lookout for Russian influence?

Incorrect headline, not that it really matters...

Quote

“The companies have also agreed to unprecedented transparency for Treasury into their operations by undertaking extensive, ongoing auditing, certification, and reporting requirements,” the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control said in a release. “All sanctions on Deripaska continue in force.”

Believing Russian companies (which are basically extensions of the Kremlin) when they are agreeing to "unprecedented transparency" is sort of like believing Lucy when she tells you for the 49th time that she promises not to pull the ball away.

Hey, i'm not saying it shouldn't be scrutinized, i'm just pointing out that it's not pointing out the full story.  A foreign company agreed to let the US have full access to their books.  It's not like they just "pinky" swore that they wouldn't give Oleg all their cash.  If you want to believe that the Treasury is just going to make sure this is only glanced over and we don't end up digging into their books, I understand that concern. There is no proof at this time of anything like that though.

Fair enough. But the idea that Deripaska will not have influence over any of his partners is a little hard to believe for me.
