Drew and Mike being replaced by Dave and Chuck

Recommended Posts

In defense.... at least Drew and Mark are funny about it. At least that's my perception. Sarah is there just to giggle and be flirty. Stoney makes arguments that dno't make sense. Bill can be funny and much like Doug and Gator sounds like someone I'd hang out with. But the 3 together is not good sometimes. It's too thrown together. It's like "here's a dude, his big brother, and the girl...."

I really do like the fact that I haven an option in the afternoon to listen. They're really making an effort with sports. I can tell they're doing research. They may not understand it fully but I can tell they're trying.

Another thing, especially with Drew, is he loves to read and discuss what he's read. So we'll continue to segments about lesser known Phil Jackson stories rather than call after call defending or bitching about Leyland pinch hitting donnie kelly baby the night before. Not sure if anyone caught that talk, but it was interesting.

I have been almost exclusively listening to Drew on my way home from work. I have not heard much in the way of sports talk yet, but it is sprinkled in here and there. It is still mainly the Drew and Mike show without Mike.

I know what you're saying and I agree somewhat. Marc hasn't really found his niche yet. He's not bringing much to the show at this point, but they're still working things out on the fly. He might find his wheelhouse in time.

Personally, I have been pleasantly surprised by the Ryan and Rico show. They have good guests and seem to know what they are talking about.

Drew's show is pretty rough still though. But it seems like they are still working things out and figuring out how to do the show without Mike. I'll give it time.

I think they figured it out pretty well when they were without Mike Clark for 4 months at the beginning of the year. I think it's kind of what prompted all this. GM probably thought, what the heck are we paying Mike Clark for when the show is better without him? I think its more of a case that Drew and Marc aren't sure if they need to be new and different and focus on sports or if they want the same show they had on WRIF.

I don't have any interest whatsoever in listening to the Mike Clark podcast.

I've listened to the first two and have really enjoyed them. I always liked Drew over Mike, but when Mike has had to take over (such as Drew's absence) I've enjoyed it. In fact, I got hooked on the Drew and MIke show back in the late 90's when Drew was out for a significant time (back surgery???). I was actually worried when they brought this 'Drew' guy back into the fold after his leave.

So far 105.1 is just another FM talk radio station, but with a little but of sports sprinkled in so they can say they are "sports talk".

Mike does seem a lot better when he has to host and without Drew.

See, now I've been just the opposite all these years. Anytime Drew isn't there, I usually flip the station. For the most part, I like his take on things, his sense of humor and his general opinions more than Mike. While I'm not "offended" by all the Butt Mike stuff and things like that, it just gets old after a while.

But the podcast will be the same as Drew's show with farts thrown in. Ya gotta' love that!

:) Towards the end, Mike just sort of got on my nerves. It isn't that I found him offensive or anything, but say for instance Drew would be in a big discussion with ML about Kwame and Mike would chime in with something like, Yeah, and I bet he's got a small schlong or just something stupid like that. You could almost hear the eye rolling over the air.

After listening to the first podcast from Mike Clark, I will say Drew made a mistake. IMO Mike on his own without Drew is better listening than Drew without Mike. Mike and Mike together on the podcast is pretty good. Mike Wolters is far more natural on air than Marc.

Drew has a paying job on a major station on the shift he's coveted for years. I don't really see how he made a mistake. I don't feel like this was some spur of the moment decision on Greater Media's part. They got the new younger morning show, they've got Drew, who probably took less to go to 105.1 which wasn't doing much ratings wise before. I don't know how much is saved by using syndicated shows over on air talent, but it seems like it would be cheaper. Just win/win all the way around for GM.

After listening to Drew for 2 weeks now, his show sucks. The Detroit Cast with Mike Clark is very good, and shows that Clark can do radio on his own and do it well. It's pretty clear to me that all the reality tv talk that ruined the Drew and Mike show came from Drew. Clark does very little tv talk, and him and Wolters have discussed how they rarely watch tv any more. Clark carries topic discussion well, and he seems like a new man without Drew. Lane wanted a show of his own without Clark, he got it, and it sucks.

I just admit, the Detroit Cast has surprised me. It is much more entertaining than I thought it would be.

Well, I took the bait. I made it through about 15 minutes of the most recent podcast. The only positive that I can take from it is that Mike Wolters is a far better on air personality than I thought. I think he's the true loss for Drew, not Mike Clark. I wish I knew why he backed out of the 105.1 thing. Heard a rumor that he wanted to be on the air, and they wanted him to be only the producer.

That whole bit on how nursing is some kind of racket because they have to "take a class to pass the test". Ugh. Then he goes on about the housekeeper/nurse or whatever in Romania and the health care there. Then he can't remember why they were talking about her in the first place. Oh yeah, Skype and Facetime. Do people still use Skype? Still too many uh uh uh, ah ah and, and Oh Gawds for me to get past. Maybe it got better, but I couldn't take any more. While Wolters is talking, I'm into it, but as soon as Clark opens his mouth, it loses me.

I have enjoyed the first 3 episodes. I have yet to listen to #4 but I'd rather listen to the Mike podcast than Drew talk about sports.

So don't listen to him and move on with life. I like it, and I feel that it's better than what Drew is doing. I hope they have a lot of success. They seem to be workign with limited equipment, and I'm hoping once they get the sponsorship thing figured out and make $$ that they'll keep improving. IMO Mike is underrated and I'd like to see him succeed.

Matt Dery is signing a contract today to host a midday show, prior to Drew's show. That should help things. He's knowledgable.

Well, anyone have any thoughts after giving Drew and Mark a few months to settle in?

I heard a rumor that their numbers have been disappointing so far. I feel their show would play much better in the morning.

Drew, again, is pretty good, but it has become pretty clear he doesn't have the knowledge to host a sports centered show. There's no question he's a sports fan, but he's really not going to provide any type of analysis. He's at his best during interviews and talking about non-sports topics.

I really am not getting what Mark is bringing except a one sided bias to all things U of M and a obsessive fascination with drops.

I do like having an afternoon alternative to the Ticket, especially since they run so many commercials on that station, it's nice to be able to flip to another semi-sports station during their frequent commercial breaks. Maybe in time I'll change my view, but as of now I think Valente and Foster have the better show.

Is that the same "Ticket" that had Norm Waymer on it? There was one out of Toledo but this may not be the same one. I used to listen to that on the way home. Norm got old and tired so I quit.

That name doesn't sound familiar to me. I think every radio market has a sports station called "The Ticket" though.

Thanks. That station carried the Tigers games. One of the few I can pick up, but not all the time. During the day I could hear it, but not at night. I can't pick up any Detroit stations on the radio who carry Tiger games, unlike the old days when WJR could be heard everywhere. Like many, losing them for the Tigers was a real bummer.

Honestly.... I forgot about 105.1 until this thread. Haven't listened since the playoffs. Never heard a second of chuck the freak or whatever. Been mostly listening to sirius.
