Drew and Mike being replaced by Dave and Chuck

Yep. He goes live at 3PM.

Thanks. I'm going to have to see if everyone can agree on changing the shop radio to 105.1 this afternoon!

Instagram

the Drew Lane new radio show news conference at #greatermedia detroit. talking the new @dsports1051 sports station, more. drew says the 3pm show is going to be called "Sports and More". The "more" being talking points outside of sports that listeners from his former "Drew and Mike" show are familiar with including big Detroit headlines.

Also, the stations Twitter account said they will have online streaming starting at 3PM as well.

They need to get this ship righted quickly because right now it's a mess. They've been on the air less than a half hour and started talking about A-Rod and then jumped to talking about Darius Slay's kid, eyyyyyeeeee. I already believe that Drew is going to need a Matt Dery type to help him carry sports topics because Marc Fellhauser won't cut it.

I've said before that Drew's knowledge of sports wasn't all there. They played a clip from Miggy's HR and he thought Rod and Mario were the Yankee announcers. He comes across as a guy who reads the sports pages on Thur, Fri, and Sunday, and that's it.

THey need to start talking about Detroit politics or something.

He's quoting USA Today in a topic about MVP.....

That's what they need to avoid doing. We don't need a clone of 97.1.

Do they even have a call screener? The calls they are taking right now are atrocious. On top of that they have about five or six different trains of thought going on now. Hammer the Ticket and Mike Valenti all you want but he maintains order with his topics and moves them along. Matt Dery can't get here soon enough!

But I think that's when his show is the best... they do it better than Terry and Mike.

ALso... he's referring to the Detroit teams as "we". "Did we win that game?"

Good point. Overall it looks like this format switch is being done half-assed anyways.

Good. The show will be better.

I think starting him at 3 is a bad idea because it gives Valenti & Foster a one hour head start. You need to step on their neck from the jump, right at 2. 97.1 has the Tigers and Wings, so people will be jumping over there at 6 anyway.

I wonder if the 3 pm start is because it is ESPN radio and a national show goes till 3 pm. I know shows like Rush Limbaugh, and a few other sports talk shows are from 12-3 pm. At least that seems to be the prime time of talk radio.

Weekday lineup according to Gregg Henson...

6a-10a: Mike and Mike in the Morning (ESPN Radio)

10a-Noon: Colin Cowheard (ESPN Radio)

Noon-3p: Rico Beard (Formerly at WDFN) and Ryan Ermani (Fox 2 Sportscaster)

3p-7p: Drew Lane and Mike Fellhauser

7p-Mid: ESPN Gamenight

*Henson says Matt Dery is scheduled to come in and be a co-host on one of the shows once his non-compete clause with CBS Radio runs up in 60 days.

No Mark "The Man" Wilson, no Art Regnar, no Jeff DeFran, they aren't even using the good local sportscasters from Fox 2 like Jennifer Hammond and Woodie Woodruff. Count me in as disappointed with the lineup at this stage in the game.

Sound levels are all over the place. Low, high. Engineer is drunk.

Speaking of drunk, that's what I said about LeDuff's segment, "is he drunk?"

I really enjoy Drew and have no trouble with him flying all over the place, as I tend to like whatever he's talking about. I get the feeling that they didn't have much time to prepare for today though. A lot of what i'm hearing is retreaded topics from his drewcast he did over the last month or so.

I do like the idea that it's not going to be caller driven radio.

I don't think you really need to be extremely knowledgable in sports to be on sports radio. I think there are some very knowledgable sports guys on 97.1, but it's not like they sit around doing the "sports reporters" show. Most of the time, they dumb it down or at least play ignorant and allow caller after caller to state some ridiculous statements. As such, I do like the idea that around trade deadlines, I don't think we're going to have to consistantly hear about how we should package our three worst Tigers for Giancarlo Stanton.

Geez guys, give him more than his first day. Wow, you guys are harsh. I will be listening for sure the day Kwame gets sentenced.

I wasn't trying to be critical... I listened to first hour and a half... overall it was a typical drew and mike show with a little less smut. I like that its still greater media because they don't have to ignore the past.

Turns out I can't get 105.1 in my car in Davison, so there goes my 97.1 alternative while I'm driving.

Or moving Prince Fielder to third base..........or having the Red Wings play in a retractable roof arena so they could have outdoor games when it isn't snowing.

I found it amusing that one of the other guys in the studio said he reads a certain unmentionable site of a certain unmentionable person that the owner of this website despises.

I'm assuming MWG will not be a fan of the Drew Lane show.

To be fair, one of the three Tigers offered in the proposal had an expiring contract, which would get the Marlins under the salary cap. And Don Kelly is a NL-syle player.

It make take a little time for the guys to settle in and get comfortable in new sorrundings. It always takes a while to adjust after a move.

We have to give Drew some time to start lining up guests and interviews, which, IMO, is his strong suit.

I'm sure it was tough to not bring back his partner after all those years together, but it was the right move. I just hope they can resist the temptation of having Mark fall into the "Mike" role of the stupid crude jokes and banality of discussing "rack sizes" for the whole show.

As I've gotten older I find that I listen to music a lot less.

So anytime we get a new talk station, I'm always interested.

Hopefully they find their groove and become listenable because sometimes I get NPR'd out. And when Valenti gets into the college basketball or football talk.....bleh.
