TSN - Lions pick...

Recommended Posts

The Sporting News thinks the Lions will pick Quentin Jammer from Texas. I don't think you could ever get too many men in the secondary so even with our recent pickups that really wouldn't bother me - especially if the guy is as good as the publication makes him out to be.

About all I really know about these college kids is what you guys post. I don't follow the NCAA football season much at all any more.

Anyone actually see this guy play

A) In person (I'm guessing not)"

B) On TV?

I still think there's a good chance we will trade down.

I agree. I think Jammer will a great DB. He's big and can cover like a blanket. Not to mention he hit's like Ronnie Lott. At www.lionstalk.com there is a rumor going around that the Lions are going to sign 2 more FA after the draft. Now remember this is a rumor but one of thoes players is thought to be Abrahms the Db from Tampa Bay.

If and I stress IF that is true then the Lions will be in good/great shape for the upcomming season. In fact if they have another good draft this could be the best off-season for any NFL team in a while.

I'm really starting to like M&M more and more. I relize that the jusding goes on, on the field. But the players that the Lions have brought in gives great promise:D .

Brian,

That would be awesome if they could get Abrams. Like you said, of course, that is only a rumor though. It would be nice if it was true.

I too like the M&M gang. I haven't agreed with everything they've done this off-season but I do feel they have a plan and seem to be doing what they need to execute it. Really besides the Morton thing though I've really liked what they've done.

I don't think the Lions are going to release Batch. Call me crazy but in an interview at www.detroitfreepress.com last week Batch said the Lions haven't sent in any papers to the Commish's office.

Leading me to think that they will keep Batch and draft "D" 2 outa the first 3 picks.

The Lions haven't sent their papers in yet because they have to wait until after June 1st, so they take the hit on next year's cap. I saw Jammer twice this year, and he's alot like Bryant Westbrook, but a little faster. It's the Lions #1 need, and also Carolina's #1 need. I'm starting to get at least a little nervous about Carolina taking Jammer, or trading down with Dallas or San Diego, who both would love to have him at #2.

If Carolina takes Jammer we should be jumping for joy, because that means we will be picking the top player in the draft, Julius Peppers.

I'm starting to hear scary stuff about Peppers, that he doesn't take care of his body, that sort of stuff. He is a terrific talent, but in an ESPN chat he professed a love for krispy kreme doughnuts, which is definitely a red flag. I've heard of this on a couple of occasions now. Maybe it's the Lions sending them. I don't think so. If Jammer goes #2, I'd look for the Lions to take Harrington, ahead of Peppers.

krispy kremes or not the lions would be crazy not to take Peppers if hes still around

I believe the Lions will draft Jammer if they cannot trade down. If Peppers slips then they will take him, although the #3 picks trade value would increase if Peppers was there. I heard that the Raiders have 4 picks in the first 2 rounds and are willing to part with 3 of those picks to acquire Jammer. We may be on to something....

If the Raiders were offering both their first round picks and one of their second rounders I make the deal in a second.

We have too many holes to fill, and the 20 and 21st spots will still garner us some starting talent, as too could our early second rounder. Furthermore, a top three pick will want top 3 money - and as good as Jammar might be, the talent drop-off isn't as significant as the savings would be in getting Lito Sheppard later in the draft.

Lito Sheppard is a quality corner and will be a starter in the NFL next season, and I'd also like to draft a running back in the first round as well - Draft Day is a strange thing and TJ Duckett could very well fall into our laps.

My reasoning for drafting a starting calibre running back is so we could release James Stewart and his bloated contract. We could use that money to sign Donnie Abraham and I believe we'd still have enough cap room to either sign Ken Dilger(depending on if we get a TE in the draft) or to get a better qualified QB to back up McMahon.

Abraham, Walker and Sheppard would be a strong step in the right direction for our defensive backfield, and with the additions of Hakim, Schroeder, Dilger and the resigned and reported healthy Crowell we will be a drastically improved team.

There wouldn't be any significant drop-off from Stewart to Duckett, and there could actually be an improvement.

Jammar and Woodson in the Raider secondary is scary.

Do the Lions need just to fill holes, or do they need superstars? 21 and 23 are too far down, the talent gap is tremendous. The Lions have a team full of players drafted 21 and 23. Look where it's gotten them.

I dont believe the gap is as big as you think cruzzer. After Carr and Harrington(not guaranteed) Peppers, Jammer, and the tackles Williams and McKinney there is a drop off, but everyone after that and thru the 1st round are fairly close.

Enjolras....one thing the Lions will not do is draft TJ Duckett. He is a quality back, but only a few teams in the NFL have a power running game. Pittsburg with "The Bus" is like that, but most other teams run a west coast style offense. That requires a smaller back that has speed and is able to catch the ball out of the backfield. A team like Cleveland should take him in the middle of the 1st round. Although I feel the Lions need another runningback, they have a good one currently(he doesnt fit the system either) and so many other needs to fill that it may not be a top priority. If Deshaun Foster slips into the 2nd round that is the guy I would take.

Ran a 4.38 at his personal workout. Also extremely physical. Is known to have the best jam technique of all corners drafted in the past 5 years. Allowed 1 TD this past season.

Krispy Kreme donuts??? ha ha ha

You were joking about him not taking care of his body due to Krispy Kremes right?? if not, please give me just a little bit more evidence that the guy doesn't take care of himself besides an addiction to donuts. Tell me he eats Crisco out of the can or is coming to the draft 25 pounds overweight or has a history of coming to his college seasons overweight/out of shape or something!

If the Lions could get two 1st round picks and an additional 2nd round pick....I say go for it! It has been a hit and miss with top 3 picks over the past few years anyway...maybe with four top 50 picks we will hit with a couple of guys!

Dwight Freeney?

It wasn't Julius Peppers that led the nation in sacks last year. Freeney doesn't have size, but for a defensive end, he has amazing speed. He's everywhere on the field, and he has an incredible work ethic. The word is that because of his size he's expected to go 2nd round. I'd love to see the Lions pick up Freeney.

The Lions willl not draft Peppers. Freeney is climbing up the charts right now, and could go top 15, which makes sense; he's a game-breaker. Peppers isn't a game-breaker. His workout was a little above average. I liken this to the Packers taking Mandarich, then the Lions taking Barry Sanders. Jammer isn't Sanders, but it's that wide of a difference between those two players. There are also rumors of Harrington falling. I'm sure the Lions would be very interested in this. This would be the only instance I could see the Lions moving up in this draft.

The Lions would will not draft Peppers over Jammer, but if Carolina decides to take Peppers then Detroit has to make a decision. I'd think they have to take Peppers unless they get a good trade offer.
