2013 Pistons Offseason

I'd rather trade STuckey and Jerebko. I think CV has a useful role on this team.

He's like 5th on the depth chart. I believe the pecking order at PF is

Monroe/Smith/Mitchell/Jerebko then CV. I would like to see Singler/Jerebko/Stuckey/CV all moved though.

I don't think he's behind Mitchell and in my scenario Jerebko is gone. Monroe will play some C and Smith will play mostly SF. Plus, CV is our only big who can hit a 3

It seems Tony Mitchell has some long distance shooting ability, shooting 34% in 141 ATT from 3pt range in his two seasons of college ball. I'm not saying I want Mitchell out there jacking up threes all the time with his rebounding ability, but the guy can shoot.

If they can package CV31 and Stuckey for anything it would be a godsend.

I mean, I'm definitely ok with trading Charlie if we can move him. I'm just pointing out that he does have a skill that could be useful to this team.

All Hail the NBA Offseason - The Triangle Blog - Grantland

Dumars/Pistons get an A+ for their offseason moves.

1. Drafted Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to fill in at shooting guard.

2. Drafted Tony Mitchell in the second round to just come through and destroy rims whenever necessary.

3. Hired Rasheed Wallace as an assistant coach.

4. Signed Josh Smith to a disturbingly rational four-year, $56 million deal to slide in next to Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe.

5. Signed Chauncey Billups to be the veteran ringleader that'll help oversee this batshit insane science experiment.

And they still have Drummond, a freak of nature who wasn't totally unleashed on the NBA last year, but will be this year.

Let's all become Pistons fans.

I have no idea whether it'll work, but it's going to be fun to watch them try. Caldwell-Pope and the still-only-21-year-old Brandon Knight are complete wild cards, but Billups and Rodney Stuckey should help steady the backcourt in the meantime. Granted, beyond those two, nobody on the roster can make a jump shot, but that's beside the point. Think of how terrifying a Drummond-Monroe-Smith front line will be. THINK ABOUT IT. The rest will figure itself out over the next few years. For now, instead of treading water or going into full-on tank mode, the Pistons took risks in the draft and free agency, and now they have a team that will play killer defense, run the floor, and might literally dunk you to death.

I like what they've done this offseason. Hopefully it's not over yet.

And I think KCP is going to be a better pro than McLemore or Burke.

Joe said he'd look to make trades in August, so we can only hope there is one or two more moves coming. Gotta clean this roster up.

^^^ Boy - the things these bloggers write, to get web-hits.....

For instance: The Bleacher Report tweeted that the Pistons have an interest in Rondo - only to blog that the only tradable piece they have, is the untouchable Drummond.

Why wouldn't Boston want Monroe, Stuckey(contract is done after season), and Villanueva(contract is done after season) for Rondo? They would get a young player plus more money will be available after next season to sign some free agents. I would think the expiring contracts would be worth more to Boston than Detroit given that they may be able to attract talent better.

We have plenty of trade-able pieces.

Monroe

Knight

Stuckey/CV combined are valuable to a team looking to start over

Charlie V's value will peak around the trade deadline. A team will be looking to be getting primed going into the primo free agent class next year. Id like the Pistons to hold onto him until then, unless your getting back Rondo or something.

I read that we officially offered Knight and an expiring contract, probably Stuckey for Rondo. Drummond won't be on the table obviously

I say something like Monroe,Jerebko,Stuckey,Knight for Rondo,Green and maybe one of their bad contracts, but not Wallace. Green and Smith would be a great F combination for us and Rondo would get Smith/Drummond a ton of dunks, plus we would have upgraded athletically/defensively at all 4 positions we needed to.

Some moves definitely need to be made. There is a logjam all over this roster, and there still isn't a true knock down shooter to be found in Michigan. Maybe Stauskas can play for the Pistons and Wolverines?

I don't see how CV fits on this roster at all, but I do see his value at the trade deadline. Not sure what Dumars will do from here, but it seems pretty clear that a couple more moves are in order.

I know we've all come to hate Charlie V, but a 6'11 guy who shot 35% from 3 last year has a place on this roster IMO. Again, not that I'd be at all broken up if we dealt him, but while he's here, I think we can use him.

There are "whispers" that the Bucks and Pistons are discussing a sign-and-trade involving Brandon Jennings, according to beat writer Gery Woelfel.

yikes

I want it to be true I have to say. I have the same worries about Jennings that everyone else has, but man, he's talented, he's 23, he hits 3s at a solid percentage and you know what, this team needs to take risks on talent IMO. I'd make the move. I think he has a lot more upside than Brandon Knight and you just have to pray that Cheeks and Billups can help mold him as a PG.

Brandon Jennings is better than any guard they currently have. But I wouldn't include Monroe in a package for him, whereas I'd do it in a heartbeat for Rondo.

Brandon Jennings would be a terrible move, he plays no defense and can't shoot worth a damn, not to mention he is a diva who thinks he should be making $12 mill a year. Pistons are better off sticking with Knight, at least he is a + on the defensive side of the ball, not to mention younger and on a rookie contract.

We aren't talking "Monroe" in a S&T, most likely just dumping garbage.

Jennings would be the worst possible move that the Pistons could make. He dominates the ball way too much, shoots way too much and is erratic and plays no defense whatsoever. We talk about our frustrations with too many combo guards and that's exactly what Jennings is albeit an extremely talented one.

The Pistons need to build a TEAM here, Jennings is all about individual play. Dumars should be targeting Rondo ASAP, exactly the type of player they need to run the offense and get the ball to the bigs in the right spots.

Still need a shooter as well. The Italian Guy could be good but they can't depend on him as their sole marksman.
