The Brennan Boesch and Delmon Young Are Bad Thread VIII

Recommended Posts

LF has been good this year...when Dirks or Berry are out there. I can live with 2b being a tad off if the defense is acceptable (Santiago, Worth). We are in serious need of an upgrade in RF and DH.

Boesch HAS to go to Toledo when Dirks is back.

What's the record for most negative WAR over an entire season? Because he could get to -4.0 if he sticks around all year!

Worst WAR ever:

Jerry Royster Atl 1977 -4.1

Lim Levey Stl 1933 -4.1

Levey also had the 7th worst WAR in 1931

Worst Tigers WAR:

Jerry Morales 1979 -2.6

Boesch has a very real shot at that one if he keeps playing.

Boesch and Young a combined 1-6 tonight, came up to bat with a total of 10 men on base and managed to pick up 1 RBI, and a grand total of two bases of advancement combined for all of those runners. Good stuff.

Remember how Boesch was going to have a great year hitting in front of Cabrera and Fielder?

I dislike both of these players so much.

As much as you hate Austin Jackson? :)

I told Biggs last night that Young may be my least favorite Tiger of all time.

I would indeed say that Delmon has quickly become my least favorite Tiger of all time.

Alex Sanchez was the previous holder of this honor.

I suggested Juan Gonzalez.

I couldn't stand Milt Cuyler back in the day. Of course that might because Joe Falls was in love with him, and I couldn't stand Falls.

I know during the offseason I had multiple debates about getting rid of Young and signing DeJesus which had mixed reviews/viewpoints. Unfortunately, Young has continued to struggle as he has his entire career, DeJesus on the other hand has an OBP of .360 while playing decent defense. I hope Young and Boesch turn it around, but I think DD made a huge mistake tendering Young a contract when there were better players available.

I really do dislike Young a lot, it's so frustrating because you can see he really does have a lot of natural talent. When he gets a mistake pitch or guesses right on a fastball he's got a great swing and he hammers the ball...but then he swings at eight pitches in the dirt in a row or something. And then drops a flyball, and then aghhhhhhh

From a pure performance standpoint I like Boesch a lot less, at least Young has a track record of being a solid hitter vs LHP, he could have some value if he was platooned.

Delmon is the stupidest player on the planet. He doesn't possess any type of plate discipline or awareness. He just goes up there hacking and praying he can make contact. His one positive is that he is physically capable of knocking the crap out of the ball. I just wonder if Young even tries to improve his game or if he is just plain too lazy to even try. Easily my least favorite Tiger.

DY has been hot as of late with homer in each of the past 4 games. As a man, I think hes a joke. As a player, we need him to have any chance of making the playoffs. Then he can play OF when Victor returns (we hope). I think Bosch needs a change of scenary though. He never looks happy and I think a new team would help him. I would think we could trade Porcello and Bosch and pick up a good 2nd basemen.

Delmon Young is like Raburn. He will have just enough hot streaks to fool people into thinking he is an everyday player. But he should not be one.

If Turner is close to ready by next Spring I wouldn't want to have to make DD's decision on which pitcher to move. RP seems like the obvious candidate but a Porcello trade is still a potential GM's nightmare. Despite his problems, RP has a lot of pieces to his game that argue he could still end up a lot better than he is now. He has also been very durable, which is hard enough to find in any pitcher.

IMO, Raburn has had a better career. At this point, neither of them is any bet to be as good as below average. The only reason to keep Young as a DH at this point is....we have almost no options. He should never need a glove again, however.

Delmon is a great DH....vs left handed pitchers. What a surprise, the Tigers face 5 lefty starters in a row and he looks good. He'll turn back to a steaming pile of crap again as soon as a string of right handers appears.
