5/30 MTS MiLB Hot Sheet

Pitchers

1.

Matt Crouse – Lakeland Flying Tigers RP

7117595395_e7095f5bb0_z.jpg

1 SV, 7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

A brand new face in the top spot this week. The starters have really been struggling to get things together this year. Our relievers have decided to take over the Hot Sheet. Crouse has been a stud out of the Lakeland bullpen all year, and now sports a legit 1.88 ERA.

2.

Kevin De La Cruz – Erie Seawolves SP

20120323-150933.jpg?w=627

0-0, 6.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 7 K

Kevin De La Cruz put together the best performance by a starter this week. While De La Cruz hasn’t been lights out all year, he has been consistent. He has been on the Hot Sheet multiple times.

3.

Luis Angel Sanz – Lakeland Flying Tigers RP

6971534352_df42e2ae20_z.jpg

1-0, 5.0 IP, 7 H, 0 H, 1 BB, 5 K

Luis Angel Sanz has been bouncing back between starter and reliever down in Lakeland. For the most part has been a solid pitcher. He just needs to avoid those blow up performances and he’ll have a solid season.

4.

Casey Crosby – Toledo Mud Hens SP

Hens-Casey-Crosby.jpg

0-0, 7.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 10 K

While Casey has been giving up a lot of runs lately, he has that strike out pitch working for him. His 57 is good for 5th in the International league.

5.

Zach Samuels – Erie Seawolves RP

7055891945_be261273e7_z.jpg

1-0, 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K

Another reliever cracking the top 5. Gotta love it.

6.

Nick Avila – West Michigan Whitecaps RP

5.2 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

7.

Ramon Garcia – Erie Seawolves SP

1-0, 6.1 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K

8.

Josue Carreno – West Michigan Whitecaps SP

1-1, 11.0 IP, 12 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 9 K

9.

Wilsen Palacios – West Michigan Whitecaps SP

2-0, 12.2 IP, 13 H, 4 ER 2 BB, 7 K

10.

James Avery – Erie Seawolves SP

0-1, 12.0 IP, 14 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 11 K

Batters

1.

Curt Casali – West Michigan Whitecaps C

bildeca85ah95.jpg

7-15, .467 AVG, 6 R, 1 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 5:1 BB:K

Two new faces in both of the top spots….YUP! This week basically doubled Curt Casali’s season RBI total. But his OPS has been steady around .850-.900 (currently .890) all year. Curt might be starting to warm up along with the weather.

2.

Brad Eldred – Toledo Mud Hens 1B/DH

NmGLwb2m.jpg

8-20, .400 AVG, 8 R, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 1 SB, 4:4 BB:K

Yup, Brad Eldred is back in Toledo. So prepare to see his face a lot of the Hot Sheet.

3.

Jordan Lennerton – Erie Seawolves 1B/DH

41802312E.jpg

7-17, .412 AVG, 4 R, 2 2B, 5 RBI, 8:3 BB:K

Jordan Lennerton is on pace for a career year. He currently has 10 HRs, and his previous career high of 14 came last year. Those 10 are good enough for 3rd in the Eastern League and his .934 OPS is good enough for 4th.

4.

Dean Green – West Michigan Whitecaps 1B

Dean%20Green-1-4_jpg_475x310_q85.jpg

9-23, .391 AVG, 4 R, 2 2B, 6 HR, 1:2 BB:K

Dean Green is stroking the ball in West Michigan right now. In his first 50 games he has collected 50 XBH. He also leads the Whitecaps with 31 RBIs. He has adapted very well to the better pitching in the Midwest League.

5.

Rob Brantly – Erie Seawolves C

x350.jpg

8-19, .421 AVG, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 0:2 BB:K

My AAT’s .315 AVG on the season is good enough for top 10 in the Eastern League. Looking good Rob!

6.

Nick Castellanos – Lakeland Flying Tigers 3B

9-22, .409 AVG, 4 R, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 2:9 BB:K

7.

Eugenio Suarez – West Michigan Whitecaps SS/2B

8-25, .320 AVG, 7 R, 4 2B, 5 RBI, 2 SB, 3:7 BB:K

8.

Jason King – West Michigan Whitecaps 3B

8-26, .308 AVG, 4 R, 2 2B, 4 RBI, 1:6 BB:K

9.

Ben Guez – Toledo Mud Hens OF

9-27, .333 AVG, 2 R, 2 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 2 SB, 1:6 BB:K

10.

Corey Jones – Erie Seawolves 2B

5-16, .313 AVG, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1: 5 BB:K

HONORABLE MENTION

James McCann – Lakeland Flying Tigers C

6-19, .316 AVG, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 0:5 BB:K

Because the rest of the starters in the system must be throwing under hand.

Not many good performances this week by the pitchers. But that has been pretty much the entire season.

I have a feeling Brantly will be one of our bigger trade chips we try to dangle at the deadline, along with possibly Turner,Oliver or some of our A ball pitchers. Cs are always valuable and we still have Avila and Mccann so we have that luxury.

Too bad Toledo is practically barren. We need MLB ready players now.

BTW, Andy Oliver is such a mess. 43 BB in 52 IP. His batting average against is only .214 but his ERA is 4.44. :dead:

He would make the MiLB Dead Sheet if we had one.

I was wondering that myself.

You never know, but I think Avila is going to be a good C for a long time in this league. I like his swing, his athleticism and his skills behind the plate.
