I really hope we see him back with the organization as a coach or something. Magglio was such a huge part of this teams rejuvenation and a great baseball player.

Maggs helped to restore the Tigers into a contender, and I will always appreciate him for that. I hope he lives a happy and productive post-retirement life.

"I am very close to my retirement'

Still could mean within minutes or hours...maybe he is just waiting for someone to sign off from the MLB offices or something?

Either way..I will never forget where I was or what I was doing when Magglio hit that HR.

Thanks for one the most memorable HRs ever hit in a Tigers uniform, Magglio.

I wonder which uniform he'll be wearing when he doesn't get into the Hall?

I think he showers in his White Sox uniform because he feels dirty...I think he only puts the Tigers uni on when he is saving little kittens from trees....and things like that. You know, super hero type stuff.

Don't look it up trivia: who was the pitcher who gave up that dinger?

Maggs, for all of his flaws, was worth every damn penny of the contract they gave him before 2005. His performance from October 2006 - October 2007 alone was worth it in my estimation. That was one year of the most awesome hitting by a Tigers OFer in my lifetime.

I loved the year-ending game in 2007 at the Cell...Polanco, Maggs and Granderson were at the end of incredible seasons, and Maggs was at an MVP level. Maggs hit a HR in that game, the Tigers walloped the then-woeful Chux 13-3. We (my sons and I) were right behind home plate (with a suprisingly enthusiastic White Sox crowd, esp. given that they were finishing a 100-loss season). When Maggs finished rounding the bases, we stood up and chanted "MVP!"...it was great.

Yay Maggs! Have a good life, and thanks for the memories.

I have the bottle opener that plays the Dan & Jim call, but after opening many a beer the batteries are dead. Might have to fire it up in Magg's honor.

What I like about it is the bean counters insist it is a bad deal but the owner manager and most fans think it was a great deal.

If it wasn't for that damn incident on the bases in 2010, he would've most likely had another couple good years.

Are we going to have one of these feel good threads when Inge retires too?

We are all going to feel really good when Inge retires.

I knew that was coming.

I can't hit well, but if you set it on a tee...
