Tigers sign Prince Fielder to 9 year deal!!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I'm curious to see how bad Fielder's defense will be at 1B.

Galarraga gets his perfect game if Prince was at first...

Boesch RF

Raburn LF

Cabrera 3B

Fielder 1B

Avila C

Peralta SS

Young DH

Santiago 2B

Jackson CF

And no, I'm not on crack.

If Miggy is at 3b, Worth/Santiago might be the 2b pairing for better D.

AJ, BB, Miggy, Prince, Delmon (DH), AA, Peralta, Raburn, Worth/Santiago

Oh please. Cabrera lasted all of 14 games at 3B in 2008. We are now to believe that if he can get in shape he can be a decent 3B? If he could have been an adequate 3B, he's have been at 3B since he was acquired.

I'd play him wherever to get Fielder's bat in the line-up, but dont' want to be fed a load about his potential defense at these other positions. He's going to be below average defensively no matter where he is at (and that includes 1B in my opinion).

Actually, while at a different position, his fielding and footwork got much, much better last year... and if Fielder was also on the team in '08 they would have kept Miggy there.

I see the Cabrera move as a move every team does with their best player....let me rephrase...special player.

I think Miggy can play thiiird well enough. I am not worried about it. He has a cannon for an arm and has pretty good feet for a big guy.

I think you have to bat Fielder third and Mikey fourth.

In my opinion, you bat them based on who's in front of them. If you're putting Boesch (a lefty) in front of them, then you go Cabby, Prince. If you're putting Young (a righty) in front, then go Prince, Cabby.

Name a team in the NL that needs a DH....

Doesn't have to be the NL. That's a bad reason to trade your best hitter.

If Miggy does actually move to 3B we will be in for a real treat as we listen to Inge whine and demand to be traded or released.

More than ever, we could use Inge's defense as a back-up 3B. Actually, it makes the Laird signing even more useless, because Inge could have had that role too. Not that he wants it, but he'll have a hard time cracking the line-up if Cabrera is at 3B.

Yeah exactly.

We didn't even have a 1b when we got him...and BInge was playing 'alright' back then. It was a no brainer so is this move. He will shake the rust out...it may take all year, but if someone really thinks the runs we will give up because of this will be more than the runs we score they are crazy.

Damn. Imagine next year when we get Victor back and with Turner a year farther along. We are gonna be very good for the next few years. It's good to be a Tiger.

At the risk of hijacking this thread, Inge never whined for a release or to be traded. Based on what some of the "in the know" people are saying, I fully expect the Tigers to try Cabby at third. Dunno if it'll work or not. I'm sure Inge will be a bit grumpy... who wouldn't at the idea of losing their job??
