BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Recommended Posts

Great game from MSU and congrats on the conference championship. That was impressive performance.

Can't wait to watch that Stanford v. MSU matchup. That is going to be a physical game.

Yes and yes.

Tell you what, I am awfully respectful of Hoke and his decision last week, and I am certain he'll have better seasons than this season. But Dantonio is building a sleeping giant in East Lansing, and tonight may have been the coming out party. The Big Ten East is not necessarily going to come down to OSU & UoM like many traditionalists might think.

I do want to say that I give a tip of the cap to Meyer for not playing Marcus Hall. I know he's made some questionable decisions in his past at Florida over playing guys in trouble, but this was good to see.

I didn't see him in the game, but they did mention late in the 3rd quarter that at that point he had been in for only one series. I think he should have just been suspended.

I am not a big fan of Meyer and his past related to this is one reason. I suspected he might use Hall at the beginning of the 2nd and then keep him on regular use after that. I am surprised (and fine) that that didn't play out like I thought.

This Michigan fan says Hell of a season, Sparty. Way to beat those redneck bastards tonight. If not for some questionable calls by the refs in the Notre Dame game, you'd be in the discussion for the whole thing. If you had Connor Cook from the start, I have no doubt you would be in the top 3 or 4 right now.

I don't care if the Big Ten is in the title game. Ohio State would have gotten destroyed anyway....

Another Michigan fan here to congratulate Sparty. HOWEVER, I only congratulate those who were also Sparty fans in the John L. Smith era. Fair-weather fans get nothing from me. :D

Anyone think after this season's performance there is any possibility that Dantonio is offered the Texas job?

I don't think he'd be offered it. Not that he isn't good enough, but I think if Texas wants to hire someone over 55, it's gonna be a superstar like Saban, if not someone on or close to that level, they're gonna look for someone younger than Dantonio.

I don't know why Dantonio would even considering leaving. He's got a great gig there, he's happy (I think). I think having to be the head coach of Texas would be a mostly miserable experience right n ow.

Some people are saying that MSU will start getting more of the 4 and 5 star recruits. Maybe so, but it seems like not having as many of those recruits really works for them. It's a team with a constant chip on their shoulder, it works. I hate rivals and scout.com and all that nonsense, it means nothing.

I had been telling people at work all week that the Ohio State BCS controversy was a moot point because the better overall team on the field in Indianapolis on Saturday night would be the Michigan State Spartans. Believed it then and believe it now.

Ohio State was tough but they earned it. Signature win for the program here... the type of win that needs to happen in order to make that next step and to be taken seriously by the national media.

Dantonio has built up a very solid program. Is this one of the better eras for MSU? I do hope he stays at MSU. It'll be a pain facing them annually, but let's face it, this conference needs more programs like that.

It's a Michigan fan's dream...MSU still goes to a meaningless bowl, OSU out of national title picture. All is right with the world...

Obvious troll is obvious.

Jeez, alot of very sensitive people here. I just said the truth. I'd say the exact same thing if Michigan was in it. The Big 10 championship and the rose bowl are completely meaningless. I've thought that back when Michigan was going to rose bowls too. It's simply a place to park the big ten because the Big 10 is never good enough to play with the top teams for the national title. That is what the big ten in general should aspire to do- the national title. That is what Michigan and MSU should aspire to, yet they never do. It's all about Big 10 championships and the rose bowl. So what? That's like being the JV champions. The SEC consistently runs over the big 10 in big games and until that changes, both MSU and Michigan are kind of irrelevant to the national scene.

To me, it's beyond yesterday, beyond beating OSU, beyond a rose bowl. It's a national championship. But if we can't have that, OSU and MSU playing in bowls that don't mean anything either (other than $$$) is fine too. I don't know what it is about big ten fans in general. Everyone seems fine with being the nice mediocre conference in the middle of the country. Seems like we should want more than that.

Well, obviously rooting against the rest of the conference during bowl season and hoping that they only make it to inferior bowl games to begin with will cure the issue of national perception.

There seem to be a few UoM fans (not all) that are having lots of fun spooning with Mark May today. Merry Christmas to you guys. 2nd from last in our division and an also ran in our own state for a few seasons. You guys should be quite proud.

I had a good laugh at the headline that showed Dantonio ranking his team as the number 2 team in the country. I didn't think I'd actually see something funnier than the lions today.....

What exactly is nutty about it? There isn't a big ten team in the conference that deserves the top 10. They don't play anybody. Including OSU.

Sagarin's SOS ratings:

FSU - 63

'Bama - 45

Baylor - 60

MSU - 55

Going into yesterday's action the FEI ratings:

FSU - 98 (Duke will raise this a bit)

Bama - 40

Mizzou - 57 (AU will raise it)

Okie St - 87 (up)

OSU - 95 (up)

MSU - 66 (will move up)

Baylor - 79

Louisville - 117

The idea that neither MSU nor OSU are deserving of top 5 let alone top 10 consideration is nutty...And illustrative of a poster that may lack perpesective and the proper context to draw a reliable conclusion.

There's but one undefeated program in the BCS this season, the debate for who should join FSU in the MNC is a legit one, and I have no problem with Dantonio making the case for his 1-loss team... I'm not even saying I agree, but there's a case to be made that if the objective is to find the two best teams in the country and have them compete for all the marbles...

Seriously people. MSU plays Florida State, or Auburn, or Alabama? They get smoked. Just like OSU would get smoked. Just like Michigan or Nebraska or anybody else would get smoked. This has been proven many times over the years. The talent level is not the same. And I am not the only voice in the country who has ever uttered this in the last 15 years. So making me out to be a crackpot just shows how isolated some of us are in our beloved Big 10 conference. You have to read something other than the Detroit Free Press to get that perspective I suppose. Keep in mind, I am not ripping on MSU specifically. I think the whole conference is inferior.

FTR, Dantonio isn't the only coach in the country to rank MSU #2.

And yes, saying that no B1G team deserves to be in the top 10 is trolling. I'd love to see you put together a top 10 without including MSU or OSU and actually be able to justify it.

Count me among the posters that will eagerly await the other 6 teams that would clearly keep MSU (or OSU for that matter) out of a list of college football's ten best teams in 2013...

And ftr, I absolutely believe MSU could give Auburn a competitive game...Perhaps FSU too.

My "ignore ' list grew by one !

LOL. Ignore list? How childish. I've attacked no one, I've simply stated an opinion. One that is shared by many across the country and backed up by 15 years of proof.

If the big ten is so wonderfully competitive, why has the conference won a national championship 2 times in 15 yrs (both OSU, of course?). MSU has a nice defense and their offense has improved. But to suggest they are a top ten team because they did well in a weak big ten conference is comical. I am a Michigan fan and am not sitting here suggesting they are anything other than mediocre at best. The point is, the entire conference is weak. I actually would have preferred to see OSU win, not because they would have beaten MSU, but because they would have likely been in the national championship game. Where they would have been beaten like a drum, further proving the point. What we are now left with is MSU going to a meaningless bowl from a national championship perspective and OSU going to a meaningless bowl from a national championship perspective. Once they're all played, neither one of them will be national champs. To me, that is what it should be about. The national championship discussions are left for the schools down south....like they are every year.

This has nothing to do with your statement about a Mich fans dreams. If you want to rant about the B1G being weak relative to the rest of the country, go for it, but it has little to do with MSU beating OSU. Besides, you seem to be very sensitive about the subject. ?
