I AM SORRY JIM LEYLAND

Recommended Posts

I have to admit, i have been ragging on leyland all summer, but, just watching his heart felt interview he just gave has blown me away. he was so choked up, and couldn't say enough great things about the fans in detroit. he proved me wrong and for that i am grateful

Really. To be honest, at this point he has been our 2nd best manager in my life since Sparky (also thought to make questionable in-game decisions). I suggest we get off his back and just enjoy this thing now.

for all the wacky lineups he throws out there, he really did prove me wrong. i was waiting for the 2nd half collapse. he really had me tearing up.

Yup, Im eating crow. Ill try not to be as reactionary with them in the future.

DD too is owed apologies. This was a team with some big holes in the first 4 months and he did a superb job in minimizing them. He should be the executive of the year.

I was critical of some of Leyland's decisions and would also like to say that I was somewhat mistaken to be as harsh as I have been on the man in the past. That call to sit Miggie before the all-star break and your decision to keep Lloyd McLendon on as the hitting coach no longer infuriate me.

The best part is Mike Valente will have to eat a turd

Haha, who doesn't wanna see that. Truth be told, I think Valenti predicted us to finish .500, I don't think many people had us finishing any better either.

Yeah but others weren't complete dicks about it

Ripping the manager of your team is done by all fans. Check out other message boards. I too have ripped Leyland, but have to apologize too. The crazy thing is that if you go to the White Sox board or the Indians board, they would love to have Leyland as their coach. Great Job Jim Leyland!

That interview will be one of my favorite Tiger memories until the day I die. It made me tear up.

It will be one of mine too. His comments about the fans and Don Kelly went right to my own love of the game discovered as a kid. He knows and respects what it is to have your heart pinned to outcomes and your dreams attached to the big leagues.

I absolutely choked up, and even shed a tear. I believe that was the most heartfelt statement he has ever made as the manager of the Detroit Tigers. And it is true, every word of it. I missed the entire game...but turned it on in time to see the celebration. Amazing. Way to go Jim. You won in spite of what all of us armchair managers predicted, and I could not be more happy or proud.

Congratulations...Minnesota Twins...SUCK!

Thanks for posting that.

I also need to eat some crow about some of my complaints regarding the line-ups.

JL is a good man....and a good manager!

C'mon. He batted Don Kelly second last night.

(pauses to look at box score)

Never mind.

Jim Leyland is, by all accounts, an absolutely terrific person! And he represents the city and his fans very well. I'm really glad he was able to do this for them, and hope he continues to be a division-winning manager for the next 5 year. Make no mistake, all of his criticism this year (myself included) were with the team's best interest in mind. We as Tiger fans have seen too many close opportunities slip away. There was a pretty good chance we were going to need every last win this year in fear of it going right down to the wire. And for that, Jim took a lot of heat for a lot of the awkward decisions he made. As any manager in that situation would. We SHOULD question him. We all wanted the same end result, and we got there. He's a terrific person and I'm happy the team won this for him. It's going to be a fun post-season.

I complained about those lineups too but people trying to prove that they make a big difference have demonstrated to their surprise that they do not.

I guess there's a reason that we are relegated to the sidelines watching while others are doing stuff. Thanks Jim. Thanks DD and thanks Mr I.

Eh, we don't know that they didn't make a difference. They could have easily cost a game or two. We didn't need it though, so the point is moot. :)
