DETROIT TIGERS.... 2011 AMERICAN LEAGUE CENTRAL CHAMPIONS.

Recommended Posts

Jim Leyland just was interviewed and he was crying like a baby. He said he knows how it is for people in Detroit worried about being laid off and sometimes sports teams can lift people's spirits and he hopes the Tigers have been able to do that for some people. It brought tears to my eyes.

he had me tearing up as well. he seemed so genuine, his message, i felt guilty for being such a prick to him.

I'm only 16, so I haven't been through the pains most of ya'll have, but I just had a thought of my grandma, who passed in 2009, and I know how much she would have loved seeing this.

I am one of those people that have been laid off. I am not gonna be too worried about things for a few more weeks because of the Tigers. It's a wonderful distraction.

What a season. Ill remember it fondly with 1987 as one of my two favorite regular seasons. Things were pretty bleak early with a poor top of the order and erratic pitching but Leyland pieced it together to keep us in it until DD acquired the reinforcements that put us over the top. DD and Leyland turned out to be a pretty effective combo.

Thoroughly enjoyable.

That was a good interview from Leyland. It was great to see him smile on the field too, quite rare from a man who often wears a serious, stern expression.

I turned the radio on in the first inning to listen and promptly passed out two batters in.

Does anybody have a link to any videos of the celebration? (I assume there was one)

I haven't been able to find any videos online yet. They will all be up tomorrow I am sure. Glad to have finally witnessed my first Tigers AL Central Championship! Hoping for more to follow!

Those videos were great. Thanks for posting them.

I remember as a kid I had a 78 rpm record called "Sock it to 'em Tigers" (I think). Mentions many members of the 68' Tiger team. Wish I still had it just for nostalgias' sake. Couldn't find it on Youtube. If anyone could post this I would greatly appreciate it.

Congrats Tigers. Leyland tearing up got to me also. Did not expect that. He really has strong feelings about Detroit. I guess there is crying in baseball.

Congratulations to the Tigers and their fans.

I tell you, this last month, they've made it look like a cake-walk.

Although I'll be rooting for my Yankees, right now the Tigers look like the team to beat in the AL. They seem to be clicking on all cylinders - pitching, hitting, fielding, bench.

I guess a lot will depend if they can keep up the momentum and avoid injuries in the homestretch to the playoffs.

yeah, this has definitely been up there with the 1987 regular season. 2006 was great too, but the poor finish took away some of the luster. Plus, this team has had more great individual performances. 1984 was fantastic, but it was almost too easy. After the great start, everything else was anticlimactic.

This September will rank as my favorite month of baseball ever. This exorcises all of the late-season demons; since this year started the Tigers discovered or acquired three players who should be key to their future success: Avila, Peralta, and Fister. All relatively young, all relatively cheap, and all at positions that were major problems for the Tigers since 2008. Good work, DD, and damn good job, Jim Leyland.
