I'd just started University at 18.

So I was probably in a bar somewhere. Baseball scores were at least two days old by the time they reached here in those days - if they ever reached here.

I remember being in England in May 1989. It was nearly impossible to get a baseball score at the time, and I tried. USA Todays and International Herald Tribunes were impossible to come by in Coleshill, and the IHT I did see in Birmingham when I was there was tracking behind a couple of days.

Way different experience from September 2005 when I was in London and England. Instantaneous scores.

I love the internets.

I saw the Sunday game at my folks house, where I was living while making $17,000/year in my entry level ad gig. And that was not good money even then.

I did manage to scrape up four bucks to get into the bleachers for the Saturday game, though. Obviously one of the most memorable games of my life, still.

My mom tells me my grandmother and I watched it together, while my dad, uncle and grandfather listened to it on the radio while they renovated the kitchen. She said my grandmother and I used to watch games when I was really little. I was four.

I love the internets.

The Internet? Is that thing still around?

It is amazing how used to the luxury of having information instantly at my disposal I am because, as I was reading Ian's post, I was wondering how it was that the scores weren't available to him. Then it hit me: It was 1987.

The internet was merely a glint in Al Gore's eye back then.

So, Blue Square Thing......how did you become a baseball fan?

The internet has changed every aspect of our lives........and brought us all together here.

I love you guys.

I was an 8 year-old sports fan that was probably playing baseball with a tennis ball in my front yard with my brother and some friends. Unfortunately, I think I also was a Cardinals fan. :dead: (I didn't really like one particular team...the agonies of growing up in NC, with no MLB team or NFL or NBA team at the time)

The only problem is that 1987 seems like yesterday when I see the date - and then I realise it's over half a lifetime away :-)

Ah, American Football took off here in about 84/85 (well, by took off I mean the 4th TV channel (out of 4 - yes, it was that long ago) which had just launched decided they would broadcast a show on a Sunday evening showing highlights of a game from the previous week).

They briefly, very briefly, flirted with baseball highlights as well - I can remember one world series being broadcast certainly.

So I suppose I got into baseball through football really - by association. Although I guess I was a summer camp dude at a camp in Saratoga during the summer of 87 and played a lot of softball then - so I guess that helped cement things.

I remember it was a nice day because I was playing with a friend outside, possibly baseball with a tennis ball. Or golf with a bat and tennis ball. Or maybe football. Probably all 3 actually. I heard the Herndon home run on the radio and remember George Kell calling the final out so I must have been inside by then.

I was a freshman at NMU. Remember watching Tanana throw that 1-0 gem to beat Toronto, but can't for the life of me recall where I was sitting. Must have been a lounge in one of the dorms, unless I had to travel home that weekend?

I was recovering from a huge hangover after my cousin`s wedding the day before. My butt was planted in our lazy boy with the remote in one hand and a bloody mary in the other one.The best game I ever saw Frank Tanana pitch with the Tigers. If only the season could have continued on a good note after that ballgame.

Agony and the Ecstasy. I was 12.

Watching the Lions blow a 17-0 lead against the Bucs, and then watching the Tigers win.

I was working OT at Oldsmobile in Lansing in the computer department; I went home for lunch just to make sure I had the VCR set to record the game @ 3 pm. Then at 4 pm - went home & my Wife & I finished watching the game. What a day and what a year.

The ALCS was a big letdown - but it still was sweet to have won the East in 1987.

Interesting to hear you talk about this. A close friend of mine that lives in Leyland, Lancashire talks about that occasionally when we talk American football. He says that's how he got into watching it. He didn't really mention watching baseball, only that he wants to see a Ravens game if they come over to visit.

Freshman in HS, living in Elkhart, IN at the time. I remember watching the game on ABC as if it was yesterday. If the Jays had won, there would have been a 1 game playoff, I believe, but that wasn't the case.

chalk up another one under "Non-existent".

that's why I'm so pumped for the clinching moment to come. Hoping I get a local Oakland feed here in Orange County so I can set the DVR and have the game forever.

Assuming all things go to plan, of course.

I have no idea where I was. I liked baseball alot, but I almost never just sat in front of the TV watching. I was probably outside playing baseball or picking my nose playing bounce of the curb or something.

I can almost guarantee you that 50 years from now if we win the whole thing or the division or the AL this year I will be able to say where I was then.

Back in 06 when Maggs hit the walk off to go the the WS I was at Lions Tigers and Beers in Wyandotte. I had left the bar about 10 minutes before he hit the HR because I got in a fight with the girlfriend (wife currently). I walked down to Jimmy Johns, ordered a pop and sat there in the small sitting area alone while they had the game on in the back on the radio. I heard it and didnt get to enjoy it because I was sooo pissed at the wife.
