My old boss back in Michigan would always say that - we, what do you have a mouse in your pocket?

That was his nice way of saying - I'm not helping:)

I agree with 8-4. I don't much care how they get there, though I agree .. a strong start is needed.

As per the usual...Drizzle with a solid and reasoned perspective. I'm in essentially the same neighborhood, but I keep shuffing around ND, NU and Iowa. I think it's essentially a 6-8 win team (I think the Hilton threw out a 7 win O/U fwiw).

HA

I couldn't remember if NU's QB is coming back, so I just put it as a win. I'd feel more comfortable at 7-5, but whatever. I see 4 gimmies and 8 non-gimmies. I have hope that Borges will use Denard aggressively and that we have an actual defensive system and that the talent isn't so bad that an actual defensive system helps.

Ah, it appears that it is time once again where I lament predicting individual game outcomes.

First, I must start by assessing the overall talent level of the team. On offense, I think they will do very well. I'm not convinced that manball will rule the day, especially after the recent mgoblog posts. We have an experienced line, experienced receivers, and a great qb. The running game will be a bug question, but I think someone will step up and be decent. Overall, I expect a very good offense. There are some questions regarding denard's passing ability, but I think the staff is more focused on coaching him up in that regard, more so than the previous regime, which seemed to focus on getting the bulk of his value from his legs. I expect fewer home run drives, but more sustained drives.

On special teams, I am hoping that the new kicker will pan out. He has to. Punting is punting, and the new kicker was a very good punter in high school, so I expect him to be able to cover for hagerup during his suspension.

Defense, well, I don't have a ****ing clue. Simply having a competent coach leading last year's squad would have likely improved matters. We lost one decent player in mouton. We return a lot of experience, even though they sucked. The question is whether they lack true talent or just lacked good coaching. Based on their profiles, I think it is the latter. Experience is important, and being a year stronger and playing smarter should result in improvement. I am going to be cautiously optimistic and predict an average big ten defense.

So, average defense and above average offense is my overall conclusion. I think in a normal big ten season, that is good for 5 conference wins, on average. I think that profiles at about 3.5 non con wins. So 8.5 wins is my rough estimate. Does that add up? Let's see.

Western .9

ND at home at night .45

Eastern .95

Sdsu .9

Minny .9

@nw .6

@msu .45

Purdue .8

@Iowa .6 I am down on Iowa this year

@ill .8

Neb .45

Osu .45

that adds up to 8.25 wins.

Game by game, it is a 8-4 overall record, with losses to nd, msu, Nebraska, and osu. I see a lot of chance for overachieving and winning some of toss ups. With Nebraska, osu, and nd at home, I don't see any games on the schedule that are sure losses this year. I think, at a minimum, they win six, with possible losses away at Iowa and nw.

My official game by game prediction where I irrationally pick wins against nd, msu, and osu for an 11-1 record will come closer to the beginning of the season.

It's way too early for specifics.

Who knows what each team has, especially since not every team returns all their starters.

Every team has question marks -- some huge, not just Michigan.

San Diego State is key. I don't think UM fans realize but the Aztecs are ranked very closely to Michigan. I'd say both teams fall into the 35-45 area. They have a very effective offense with multiple guys that will play in the nfl.

This is not a walkover and I could see an angry team with a giant chip on their shoulder against the coach that left them pulling the road upset.

The offense will be significantly worse but still very good and the defense will be a little better but still below par. This is an average football team and coaching will be a huge determiner on if the final record is a few games above .500 or not. Im not a big fan of the OC. Theres a reason why Al Borges can never stick anywhere and UM fans will eventually find out. In two years, he'll be hated as much or worse than a Greg Robinson or one of LC's guys who I can't recall at the moment. Borges usually has initial success in new places before hes figured out but hes not known as a guy that can adapt so Ive got doubts where he can really customize his system to take advantage of Denards unique skillset.

That's a really strange argument - that M fans don't understand how good SDSU is.

I suspect that the M fan base knows more about the 2010 SDSU team than any other fan base outside San Diego.

This is the kind of trollish nonsense you post these days, and it completely blows my mind.

Seriously, we just hired Brady Hoke ..... who was only the head coach there last year! Yeah, we get it.

What I love most is how you truly act as if you know this team, and it's all negative -- shocking, it's classic.

It's way too early for specifics.

And yet people try.
