I think from just a numbers perspective, the Tigers did pretty well with getting their picks signed. I think percentage wise this might be a better than average year. Was some talk of Tyler Gibson signing per micro tweets.... anyone here anything on this front?

This is something you probably already know, but his price tag is big enough money that if he signs we probably won't hear till right before the deadline.

Yep...just under 26 hrs remaining to get it done

Give him $1 million. Fine with me lol.

But of course it cause Selig to have a heart attack....

Are the links missing for the draft report and Q&A or am I just overlooking them?

They should be working. I just went in and checked them.

Shouldn't it be announced today who should be going to the Mariners in the Fister, Pauley deal?

I want to say they had three weeks from the trade to pick who they wanted which would be this coming Saturday.

IIRC earliest they can do it is the 17th (Wed) and latest is the 20th (Sat).

The Tigers still are chasing 6-6, 250-pound right-hander Mitch Mormann, who transferred last year from Louisiana State and who is eligible to pitch this year for Wichita State.

Mormann is an Iowa native who played at Des Moines Area Community College before moving to LSU. He was selected in the 25th round, although only his transfer to Wichita State and likely cash demands made him a deeper-round pick.

Last years signing deadline was extended due to the 15th landing on the weekend

What's the scoop on Gibson? Why all the excitement over a 15th rounder?

He's not a traditional 15th-round talent, but he slid there due to the usual combination of college commitment/bonus demands. Baseball America had him as the 85th overall player in the entire draft. He's a plus runner with plus power potential down the line, and he's athletic enough to man CF, although he's probably best in a corner.

Like the Gibson signing. You never know how these guys will turn out though.

I would like one year for the team to sign 10 -12 players in the Gibson range. For the price they paid for Castellanos, Ruffin and Smyly I think they could fit that many 500-750k bonus type players in. Instead of blowing their load on 2-3 picks.

I thought that was the plan for 2011, given where we were drafting. Disappointing that it didn't work out that way.
