Michigan 2012 Recruiting Thread

Recommended Posts

4* DT Danny O'Brien has scheduled his official visit to Michigan for the Notre Dame game.

That game is only getting bigger, as there are 3/4 top kids who are planning their visit for the night game.

EDIT: with the three departures this week, who knows how many recruits Michigan can take.

If they can get a few early enrollees, they can take Barnett and Posada's spots from the last class.

Best by position: Defense

247 breaks down position groups, having Michigan's OL already ranked #1, their DL #2, and their LB #2.

They mentioned if Yuri Wright goes blue, their DB class could be in the conversation as well, with Auburn.

Honestly, I don't care if we're one or two, to be debated on who has a better LB class - Michigan or Alabama, or who has a better DL class - Florida Stae or Michigan, those are debates that you want to be in.

Here are Rivals.com rankings, by position .. Michigan looking good here, with more spots to fill.

Was watching ESPN today, watching Joe Bolden's Cincinnati Colerein team beat 24th ranked, Cocoa FL.

Bolden, in doing so, showed off his tackling skills, his leg, and a pretty nice arm. A very nice athlete.

FHHvCASS.jpg

Cass Tech was defeated 43-7 at the hands of Farmington Hills Harrison.

From what I have read, FHH were just leaps and bounds better than Cass.

Burbridge wasn't covered much by T'Rich, though T'Rich did have a nice breakup in the end zone on 1-on-1 coverage ... the knock on Terry will always be his size/weight. RJC didn't have that good of a game either.

Funchess and Ojemudia played very well, from all reports on the game.

Tom Strobel sought advice from Drew Brees before commiting to Michigan | MLive.com

"Drew Brees is such a great guy," Stroble said. "I was fortunate to talk to him on the phone when I needed advice about choosing a school. He called me and he just gave me great advice with his main point being to take football completely out of the equation and at the end of the day just choose a place you want to be if you were not playing football. For me, that place was Michigan."

I can envision Joe Tiller - sitting there, reading this, shaking his fist up in the air - NOOOOOOO!!!

Zack Banner rates the visit as 20 out of 10, supposedly good friends with CA OL commit Magnuson (sp?).

He also spoke with Beilein regarding the opportunity to play Bball.

I don't follow recruiting all that closely. I check out ESPN from time to time to see who is on their list...

What I don't see for 2012 are any RB's. The talk of the program before this season was the need for THE RB to carry the load. Since, they've had trouble finding one so far, I was hopeful to see some prospect or two coming in. Any information on possibilities or am I off base. (Which is likely...)

About the only RB I ever hear mentioned is Bri'onte Dunn. He is a verbal to OSU right now.

That would be amazing.

I should've probably known this before your PM, but I've seen Allen punt for a few seasons at Fenton. He's got decent leg strength and can put some nice hang time on his punts. I would guess he's more polished as a punter than a placekicker, but, obviously, at the prep level he's far above average vs. what most teams have in both respects.

He kicked a 45-yard field goal earlier this year to end Fenton's 10-year losing skid against Fenton, so that should tell you something. That same game he missed a kick that I think was 37 or 38 yards out if I remember right. So the coaching staff had confidence that he could make the 45-yarder after he missed the other field goal. I would've made the same decision. I think he could probably kick a 50-yarder if asked.

He'd be a nice pick up. As I tell people around here, you know if you are a kicker and teams from the west coast are knocking on your door with possible scholarship offers, you have to be pretty good.

Thanks man. Most probably already know, but DTroppens is the sports editor for a news paper in Allen's hometown.

I don't know where O'Brien is going yet and I haven't seen him play, but I do know this - awhile back I talked to him about this whole recruiting process and being added to the list of a possible postseason game. He said he loves this process and that he's enjoying it 100 percent. My impression was he realizes this will never happen again in his life, so he might as well enjoy the ride.

It means nothing, but I thought I'd post that since I was asked about Kenny from D because he knows I'm from the area. Actually, D alerted me that Kenny reportedly made his decision. I guess I'll know 100 percent for myself one way or the other in a bit. I sent the family an email.

If you go on facebook, ask O'Brien to be friends with you, chances are he'll say yes. Heck, he said yes to me. He has over 1,000 friends on his facebook with people trying to get him to go one way or the other. He has a really neat picture of himself at the ND game on his page.

I found out exactly how crazy people are about this stuff when I did that story on him that said absolutely nothing about his possible decision - it had more hits on our internet site than just about anything we've had on our site in the last few years. And it's not like our site is the first thing you see when you smack something on Google or Yahoo.

One more thing about Allen. He's about 6-3 and pretty slender. He's always practicing

His kickoffs, on Fenton's turf field, have gone as six or seven yards deep into the end zone.
