PNC Park Pittsburgh

Recommended Posts

I have tickets to see the Tigers in Pittsburgh next Saturday, the 21st. Has anyone been there, and if so, any suggestions on where a good place to eat, drink, or visit might be. Staying at the Hyatt (I think) so I am within walking distance to the park and downtown (I hope).

Thanks in advance.

I am going too. But while we are at it we are going to Sundays game too (1PM). I was there in 2006 the last time Detroit played there, BEAUTIFUL PARK.

Many cool bars right oputside the park, cool place.

I love pnc park. There are no shortage of bars near the park.

Make sure to get a primanti bros sandwich (at the restaurant near the strip, not at the ballpark).

Nice to see a few others going to Pittsburgh. I'll be there Friday night. I was actually just thinking of asking the same questions.

I've read it is one of the nicest most beautiful parks in MLB, which is why I wanted to go. Missed it the last time the Tigers played them two years ago. I was ready this time and bought tickets the Saturday morning they went on sale. Looking forward to it.

I've been told there is a casino between the park and Heinz (spelling?) Field, is that true? I almost hope not, lol.

I've heard of the Primanti place, might have to check that out.

Unless they've built it in the last two years there's pretty much nothing besides parking lots and a freeway between PNC and Heinz.

I didn't care much for Permanti Bros. myself. They sounded great, but the fries just dried the entire sandwich out.

There is a casino very close on the waterfront. Yes, it's less than two years old.

PNC Park is a great ballpark, one of the best in the league. It's too bad the franchise has done little to improve the on-field talent in the last 18 years.

Dying to go to this ballpark. I would love to see all 30 ballparks, I have only seen one because I live in Cincinnati. I hear the Primanti Brothers is a great place to eat when you go to PNC. Also be sure to take in the scenery and cross the Roberto Clemente bridge.

I looked at Google Earth and the casino is past Heinz Field. Still nothing but parking lots and freeway between the two stadiums.

For those going to a night game, be sure to walk across the Clemente bridge towards the stadium after the game. The view of the stadium at night from the bridge is fantastic.

My wife and I are going to the Friday game (free T-Shirts...woohoo. We're 9 rows up, 1 section from the Tigers dugout.

We've been looking for things to do in the city. So far we've found 'The Incline', and there are 4 Carnegie Museums. Also, we foudn out it's $20 a day to park since we're staying downtown. Anyone have any discount parking lots they know of? We don't mind walking a bit.

As for the Casino, it's name is Rivers Casino, and it is on the west side of Hines Field (about the same distance as Hines Field is to PNC Park), just the opposite direction.

My advice is to park at Station Square and take the ferry to PNC Park. It's an awesome ride there, and it's especially wonderful at night on the way back.

"A short, easy walk across the Smithfield Street bridge from downtown, Station Square offers 4 outdoor parking lots and a 4-level covered parking garage for a total of 3,500 spaces. The 'T' also runs from Station Square to downtown.

Rates: the West Parking Lot offers $5.00 all-day parking plus free roundtrip shuttle service to downtown, Monday-Friday. "

The cost of the ferry, I believe, is $10. Well worth it.

Parking at the casino is free. Their policy is you need a players card, but they never had anyone there to check it last year, aside from the DMB concert. If you can handle a 20 minute walk, that's your best bet. Hines Field is about the halfway point of the walk. You can take the river walk, it's nice. I worked at PNC Park last year, let me know if you have any questions.

If you plan on getting there 5+ hours later and want a free parking trick, try Blue Lot 10. If it's early enough, they won't have an attendant at the entrance. You'll hit a button and take a ticket (pay before you leave), but immediately after the game is over they leave the gate up... It's literally the closest ramp to the Park, the only closer lot is Red 4 which is $20 and usually passes only.

As for bars, my favorites were Mullen's and McFadden's.

I also plan on going Saturday and Sunday. I also was there in 2006 when the Tigers played there. I've been two other times besides that --- Once in 2005 vs. the Rockies and another time in '08 vs. the Cubs. PNC Park is my favorite baseball park in all the land. Just a beautiful, beautiful place to see a game.

This really sucks, looks like my whole trip to see them is falling apart. Last night about 8 I came down with the Flu, or something abruptly and keep saying "Well hopefully i'm better by ___" so I can leave. At this at this point there is still time for 2 more games...
