This is also wishful thinking, we'll probably lose to San Jose who will lose to Vancouver who will beat Boston

1) Wahington Capitals

v.

8) New York Rangers

Capitals in 5

Comments: Capitals are strong. I doubt they go too deep (why is this year different from other choking years?), but they can beat they Rangers.

2) Philadelphia Flyers

v.

7) Buffalo Sabres

Flyers in 4

Comments: I don't care what the standings or so-called "experts" say, the Flyers are the best team in their conference. They will handle the Sabres fairly easily in low scoring games.

3) Boston Bruins

v.

6) Montreal Canadians

Bruins in 5

Comments: My dream is a Habs/Wings SCF, but my brain (thanks to some other posters), says Bruins.

4) Pittsburgh Penguins

vs.

5) Tampa Bay Lightning

Penguins in 7

Comments: The Penguins remind me A LOT of the 2010 Red Wings. Lots of injuries, but they still manage to get a #4 seed against a young up and coming team... I think there will be the same result.

1) Vancouver Canucks

vs.

8) Chicago Blackhawks

Canucks in 7

Comments: If Luongo plays like he usually does in the playoffs, they have no chance. I don't think he will. Luongo and the Canucks are ready. That said, the 'hawks won't go down without a massive fight.

2) San Jose Sharks

vs.

7) Los Angeles Kings

Kings in 5

Comments: Nabokov wasn't the reason the Sharks choked over and over and over... I honestly don't know what it is, but my gut is telling me the Kings will win this one.

3) Detroit Red Wings

vs.

6) Phoenix Coyotes

Wings in 5

Comments: I know a lot of people are afraid of the Coyotes, but I'm not. The Wings have been ready for this for a couple months, and they will come out firing. As long as Zetterberg doesn't miss more than 3 games, the Wings will be fine.

4) Anaheim Ducks

vs.

5) Nashville Predators

Ducks in 6

Comments: The Ducks are hot, the Predators aren't, my gut says the Ducks.

--------

1) Washington Capitals

vs.

4) Pittsburgh Penguins

Capitals in 5

Comments: The Capitals finally get their revenge. The Penguins are battered and without their best player (Malkin) or cry baby Cindy Loo Hoo to whine to the refs, the Caps win.

2) Philadelphia Flyers

vs.

3) Boston Bruins

Bruins in 7

Comments: This was a tough one for me to call, but I like Tim Thomas to win this one for the Bruins. I think that the Flyers are the best team, but you can't win if you can't score.

1) Vancouver Canucks

vs.

7) Los Angeles Kings

Canucks in 4

Comments: This one is pretty obvious. Even my gut said Vancouver.

3) Detroit Red Wings

vs.

4) Anaheim Ducks

Wings in 4

Comments: Babcock has always been good at silencing his former team, even when their hot. The Wings shouldn't have too much of a problem.

------

1) Washington Capitals

vs.

3) Boston Bruins

Bruins in 5

Comments: Goalies will win you series's... Tim Howard > Anyone that the Caps put out there. The Capitals haven't changed much from their choking habits, and I'm surprised I let them get this far.

1) Vancouver Canucks

vs.

3) Detroit Red Wings

Wings in 7

Comments: This is the matchup I would be most afraid of as a Wings fan. Both teams KNOW they can beat the other, and both have something big to prove. I cautiously like the Wings to win this one, which I believe will determine the Stanley Cup Champ.

---

3E) Boston Bruins

vs.

3W) Detroit Red Wings

Game 1 (Detroit): Wings over Bruins, 4-2

Game 2 (Detroit): Wings over Bruins, 3-1

Game 3 (Boston): Bruins over Wings, 2-0

Game 4 (Boston): Bruins over Wings, 3-1

Game 5 (Detroit): Bruins over Wings, 4-3 in OT

Game 6 (Boston): Wings over Bruins, 2-1

Game 7 (Detroit): Wings over Bruins, 1-0 in 3OT

Comments: I think it is Jimmy Howard's time to shine. The Wings have a great team all around, and though they are aging, they definitely have one more Cup in them.

Winning Goal: Mike Modano, 18:27 of the 3rd Overtime Period

Conn Smythe: Nicklas Lindstrom

Retirees

Todd Bertuzzi

Kris Draper

Nicklas Lindstrom

Mike Modano

Brian Rafalski

So there ya have it.

I'm biast, but then again, who the hell cares. This is MOTOWNsports.com, after all.

Well, you're a local, what will happen in Vancouver the night they win (if they win)?

The place would go nuts, there'd be lots of drunk hosers on Granville St. without shirts, but I don't think there'd be violence like there was in '94. Most likely the Stanley Cup parade would go within 50 ft of my downtown condo. IF the Wings get knocked out before the Canucks do I'll throw my support behind the Canucks. They're a likeable set of guys that play Red Wing-style hockey and it's a blast to be in a Canadian city during a deep playoff run. But I'll be rooting for Chicago to knock them out in the 1st round (highly unlikely in my opinion), as that would make for a more favorable 2nd round matchup for the Wings.

I like the Bruins' chances better if they keep Tim Thomas in goal rather than try out a U.S. soccer goalkeeper in net.

Hey, they get TONS of support from the fanbase in Nashville and they have from the beginning. But of course there would be a lot of Wings fans there too.

No player in the NHL has more pressure on him than Roberto Luongo. It's put up or shut up time. That team is loaded. They have scorers, they have great defensive forwards and a really good, smart defence corps - If Luongo isn't good, he's gonna have to be traded before next year. That team in Vancouver is a lot better than any other team in the league right now, but the playoffs have a way of equalizing things.

All good points.

Although the task is much easier than Luongo's, I may argue that more pressure is on Ovie to lead his team out of the first round. Back to back first round exits as the #1 seed would be devastating for all associated with the Caps but even moreso for the face of the franchise

I'm surprised I missed that, wow.

I notice you're the only person besides me who thinks that Montreal will beat the Bruins in the first round. Montreal has looked bad at times but so have the Bruins, and the Canadiens have the advantage when you look at this season's games between the two.
