Temporary Shakeup Time Yet?

Recommended Posts

As great as it is seeing the Twins and Sox suck, it makes me more upset about the Tigers because we can't take advantage of it. I still don't think Cleveland is as good as they are playing. We can still win this division but we need to go for it now.

I also don't ever recall EVERYONE on the board agree that changes need to be made, and many of them, not excluding the manager himself. It's getting quite ugly in a hurry.

What makes it worse is that there a lot of guys having great years in AA and AAA.It's not as if this is just the best we have like in years past.

This thread has been amazing! There is almost a solid consensus on what should be done, and why. With Jim's continual denial of obvious problems, and DD's inaction, where is the voice of reason and change in the Tigers organization ?

The Twins being so horrible almost makes this season bearable.

That and the fact that we know help is on the way when moves are eventually made. Hopefully they don't wait too damn long. This thread will grow 50 pages if we lose the division by one game this year.

I'm just flat out sick of seeing the absolute worst hitters playing day after day at the top of the lineup. If Leyland doesn't have the balls to send some guys down to Toledo, at least move them down in the lineup. The first inning is a gimme 1-2-3 and out. It's becoming unbearable to watch this team. I want to slap Leyland - just slap him silly!

On the bright side, no more April in the D.

This season is lost if you ask me. So for DDs first move I fire Leyland, McClendon and Lamont in a desperate attempt to save my own skin. If theres nobody out there for the long term that fits make Brookens your interim and give him enough time to see if hes the guy for next year.

Jackson and Rhymes to Toledo, Dirks and Sizemore to Detroit. DFA Magglio. Trade what you must for a legit 3rd baseman. Maybe the Mets might be willing to talk about David Wright if ya dangle Oliver as the centerpiece of a trade. Move Avila up in the order.

We are beyond tweaks now. Thats what they should have done two weeks ago but Leyland failed to do so. Now its time for a major shakeup as I think its painfully obvious Leyland is not the right guy here any longer. I never thought Id see an offense that was as ugly as 2003s again in Detroit, But this one is right there and that with Miggy in the lineup. Shame on Leyland and DD.

Mostly agree about JL and the staff. I think before I gave away Oliver I would at least try Peralta at 3rd with Worth at short. You're trading Worth's non-bat for Inge's non-bat but at least getting a better IF. You'll have to trade Inge before he goes 5/10 - you take whatever you get, Inge moping around the clubhouse would be toxic. Bring up Sizemore. Even if Jackson pulls out of his slump, I'd let Dirks split time with Raburn in RF to see if he's ready to face MLB pitching or not. Put Maggs on the 60 day and see if after some healing and rehab he might be ready to help down the stretch since someone else is likely to be hurt at that point.

EDIT: and fire whoever was responsible for Ordonez's medical evaluation. He is absolutely not ready to play on that ankle so his money should have been with contingencies.

I think the 60 day is too long for Maggs. I don't think his funk is permanent. It almost seems that Leyland is trying to give them an excuse to fire him. One thing is certain, they need more than Victor coming off the DL to get them back on track. Peralta to third and Worth or Iorg at short at worst keeps the offense the same and makes the defense (and with it the pitchers) better.

I think the team needs to do something soon. I find it hard to believe at this point that they even give a **** anymore.

I've reached the point where I want Leyland fired. At the same time DD can retire as GM and elevate Avila. He's done a great job on the business side so he can stay as CEO and PResident.

Apparently Leyland ripped into the team after the game today. I hope it works as well as the last time he did so after a series with Cleveland.

We have a legit third baseman—Jhonny Peralta. What we need is a legit shortstop. Jackson needs to be dropped to 9th in the order, Dirks brought up to bat leadoff, Sizemore brought up . . . but can you bat Sizemore 2nd?

Try and trade Furbush before Oliver, JMO.

I pretty much agree with this. Especially the last part about Ordonez's evaluation. The waste of money is one thing but they should have acquired one of the other DH types (Matsui, etc.) just to get the bat they desperately needed. The loss of a plus bat in his roster slot is devastating, even with Martinez back and healthy.

Sad to say, but Inge is demonstrating that he's not up to being a full time starting player any more. I thought he could do decently enough for another year (didn't agree with the 2 year deal), but he seems to have suddenly faded in the field and at the plate beyond usefulness. Maybe he'll have a miraculous recovery -- but I agree that he can't be allowed to go 5/10.

This may be the best solution - get a new coaching staff in there, keep Avila around, kick Dave upstairs. I like it.

Kevin Goldstein at BP showing some love to Dirks and Crosby:

Andy Dirks, OF, Tigers (Triple-A Toledo)

Dirks is hardly a traditional stud prospect. He was an eighth-round pick in 2008 after an impressive college career, but he's still a smallish corner outfielder who doesn't really have a plus tool. At the same time, everything plays up because of effort and baseball intelligence. He became a Jim Leyland favorite this spring while almost breaking camp in the big leagues, and Leyland just might get him on the roster soon—after a six-hit weekend, he's batting .340/.400/.617 in 25 games for the Mud Hens. His power is no more than average, yet he has six home runs. He's not much of a runner, yet he has 10 stolen bases in 10 attempts and can hold his own in center field. His greatest strength might be a lack of weaknesses, and there are plenty of players who have carved out long careers with similar profiles.

Casey Crosby, LHP, Tigers (Double-A Erie)

A fifth-round pick in 2007, Crosby had Tommy John surgery shortly after signing and pitched only 12 1/3 innings last year due to soreness in the joint that never went away. Entering 2011 in his fifth professional year but still with less than 130 innings under his belt, Crosby was pushed to Double-A, and he's beginning to take on the appearance of the power left-hander that got scouts so excited in 2009. Healthy and throwing pain-free, Crosby has been sitting in the low-to-mid 90s with his fastball, and is starting to harness his stuff as well, firing seven shutout innings on Saturday while allowing three hits and striking out seven. He's back on the map, but it comes with somewhat guarded optimism considering his past.

Well, they have called up Sizemore, and there are hints of other changes being made.

Adding Sizemore first of Tigers' changes | tigers.com: News

It looks like Scott will bat second and be the everyday 2B. Leyland talks about moving Magglio down, and possibly batting Martinez third. I was really hoping moving him down would mean to the DL. I would also like to see Boesch batting third, and Martinez fifth. I am afraid that we wil see this instead:

3 Martinez

4 Cabrera

5 Boesch

6 Ordonez

I could also see Leyland batting Maggs fifth with Boesch sixth. Even if he does the "right" thing, and moves Maggs and Jackson down to the bottom of the order, that still gives us a last three on par with our 7-9 of last year. I don't think that we can have both Maggs and Jackson both "figuring it out" at the same time, one of them needs to hit the DL or get sent down.

Id much prefer Boesch third and Martinez fifth. Boesch needs to see those good pitches hitting in front of Miggy.

Dirks was taken out in the 6th inning last night. I expected to wake up today finding that he had been called up. Did he get hurt?

I'd move Avila up as well.

A spot or two at most. I wouldn't mess with (relative) success. As long as he keeps producing from there, leave him. Besides, it gives the order some much-needed balance.

It was a blow out, most of the regulars were taken out. Timo was taken out, but I don't expect to see him up.

Oh my God !! The Tiger's brass is actually going to try something different! I agree with Yoda's changes the the coaching staff and the organizational changes. There had better be more than this though.
