Lions lose another player; Isaiah Ekejiuba on IR

By Dave Birkett

Free Press Sports Writer

The Detroit Lions placed linebacker Isaiah Ekejiuba on injured reserve today, the fourth player to land on IR this week, and signed offensive lineman Tony Ugoh.

Ekejiuba, who was listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers with a knee injury, joins defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch (neck), cornerback Alphonso Smith (shoulder) and receiver Derrick Williams (ankle) who've had their seasons ended by injuries. Ekejiuba missed three games earlier in the year with the injury but played the last two weeks.

Ugoh, a second-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2007, was waived-injured before the season and has not played this year.

The Lions are short-handed on the offensive line as right tackle Gosder Cherilus is expected to miss the Packers game with a knee injury.

Ugoh started at tackle most of his first three seasons with the Colts, but was moved unsuccessfully to guard after last year.

Sifting sand looking for diamonds in the rough.

I know it is a long shot but I hope Ugoh becomes a diamond.

By the way, Corey Hilliard looked terrific (except for the one sack) against Clay Matthews all day Sunday. Hmm....

Can Gosder switch to LT?

And... too premature on Ugoh... but he DID look good! And taht sack was NOT on Ugoh at all. It was on Stanton who SHOULD have stepped up into the pocket and either found a receiver or take off for whatever yards he could get... instead, he goes BACKWARDS and Ugoh ends up pushing Mathews AWAY from the pocket but suddenly right towards a backing up Stanton... that was ALL on Stanton's stupidity.

Ugoh didn't play Sunday, that was Hilliard.
