Who do we get now? The Big Guns are gone

Recommended Posts

I really don't think so, Lee, and the statement that the utterly stoopid ones and the irrelevant ones will just fade away is very true. I've seen it in other forums on other sports sites.

Depends on the size of the board. This one is very large and extremely active.

the tricky part with these contracts are, it's one way or the other, in 6 years Crawford will either be vastly underpayed (Like Cabrera is now) or vastly overpayed if they fall off like Guillen. I believe Washington's will be the worst of the 2 in seven years, Crawford is an excellent defender and has as much speed as anyone.

I don't think there is any chance Crawford becomes as good of value as Cabrera. I like speed and defense as much as the next guy but a 20+ million dollar per deal for a guy with a sub .800 career ops is insane. I am glad the Tigers did not get involved with those two players. Save the 7 year deals for the franchise players.

Not to mention that I think Fenway is the one park LEAST likely to take advantage of his defense.

Well so far this off season I think we've done enough not to fall any further back. Even if we sign Magglio (1st pitch swinging no matter the situation) Ordonez, I don't see us moving up from 3rd place in the Division.

Magglio had the 2nd highest OBP on the team last year... I'd be curious to see where he ranked in terms of swinging at the first pitch. I bet it's near the bottom.

People tend to look largely at offseason acquisitions and losses when evaluating a teams future prospects and this is a mistake. Just as much, if not more, of a team's fortune will come from either improvement or regression of the current players.

Actually a study that Billfer posted in '06 showed that his swing% was quite high, so you may be right about that. I just never noticed.

First pitch swinging

Can't get blue balls whilst you are in a Circle J, though.

I waited until Dec. 09 for the post of the year. If ! was in bed I would make a gif of this

I think the Tigers should sign Adrian Beltre and tell Inge he's the new rightfielder.....if Inge doesn't like it, let him cry.

I agree, because "OR ELSE" always produces the best results for the company and worker alike.

Why? Inge is already worse than 3 right fielders in the system.

True. We can argue whether Inge's D at 3rd justifies his poor bat and at least it's an argument. With a corner OFs I don't think any amount of defensive prowess can support a weak bat. You may be able to be a bad enough corner OF not to play even if you hit, but you can't be a good enough corner OF to play if you don't.

This doesn't sound too good. An older former catcher with two bad knees playing RF? Not a recipe for defensive success. Not to mention he would be a marginal hitter at catcher or SS, and an absolutely atrocious hitter for a RF.

I had proposed moving Inge to 2B only because the hitting standard league-wide is lower and he would probably be as good or better defensively than the alternatives. Not a great idea, but it would be an improvement over the current situation, IMHO.

Inge=much worse hitter than Sizemore.
