Lived around here for 60 years, worked in Toledo for a 10 of them (until our division went to Mexico after NAFTA and I lost my job). Fond memories of the "Glass City" anyway.  Die hard Toledo Rocket fan (BB). My oldest boy graduated from there as it turned out, after having played in a couple high school regional games on what is now "Bobby Nichols" court.  That's like out of this world cool.

I remember listening to Jerry Keil and the glory years of the mens BB program under Nick.

But the 280 bridge was not so fun.  Mad Max would be proud.  I never found a good way around it. I was literally afraid a couple times some guy with road rage was going drive me in the river.  It was that bad.

Commuted to East Toledo for a number of years. Dealt with the 280 bridge construction, 475 rebuild, 75 downtown rebuild, 23 rebuild. Washington and Monroe closures for the 5/3rd construction. At one time or another each bridge over the Maumee was out except the AW.

But I am always amazed at how many different ways there are in and out of that town. There is always another one to find when they close the one you are using.....

Of the 10 years I made the drive from Cornhole to North Toledo (Bennett Rd) the 280 bridge had one of their lanes closed 8 of them.  Toledo was a parking lot most summers no matter where you went.

It was kind of fun to watch all the people try to cheat to the front when it was one lane, while the big trucks tried to block them from doing so.  One time, two trucks got mad at each other (one wanted to get off on Front St. not needing to cross the bridge and was being blocked by another) and the guy finally just got a head of steam going and rammed right into the truck in front of him.  Pretty wild stuff.

There were car parts laying on the side of the road from all the road rage incidents.  Once you were in that mess you were stuck, and it got pretty dicey some days.

And then, of course, there were the times when that old dilapidated drawbridge would get stuck and not close.  That would turn a 1 hour commute into 3.  Not fun.

The new bridge took care of all that, but I was gone before that happened.

After I graduated from high school, I worked for ODOT.  Just menial summer help stuff, but along all of 280 was part of it.  Thankfully before they had massive lane closures and all of that crap.  But there were times we had work going on that required a lane closure.  Some real assenine stuff that drivers pulled.

First corn on the con of the season was A+ stuff.  Oh, and there's more for tomorrow.

Went for a walk with the family at the local metro park.  Saw 6 deer scaling down a hill waiting for us to pass by.  The trail we were on intersected their path from feeding grounds to a wooded hideout.  We watched them.  They watched us.  They were probably no further than 50 feet from us when they decided the coast was clear to charge on by us.  Pretty cool stuff for my daughters to see although the youngest had a hard time staying quiet through it all.

How is Anna doing?

Sorry for the delay, Biff.   I've haven't been around Motown Sports much since moving back to California a few years ago.

Anna is doing really great!  She turned 13 a few weeks ago, and I have her in my 7th grade classroom this year. She's on the honor roll, was the team MVP of our school's championship girls' basketball team, volleyball co-captain, plays flute in the school band... (my bragging could go on for days!)  There are virtually no aftereffects of the battery accept for scars.

God has been so good to us!

In the end, there are so many positives to take away from what was the scariest moment of your life (and really not just a moment...). She ended up well and everyone who read the story became very conscientious of leaving batteries out where young hands could find them.

More laughing than smiling.  Youngest daughter sent a group text to her older sister and me about this date she had tonight.  So older sister immediately runs a background check on him.   LOLOLOL

And I had nothing to do with it, except to laugh.  Poor dude, asking a girl out who has a sister.

Very happy today.  Semester over, just finished my E and M exam.  Passed all my classes.  Now only 4 classes shy of a physics degree.  Also, when I handed in my exam for my math class, it also completed a minor in Mathematics.  At 29, I couldn't tell you what cosine or sine meant, at 31 I have one more thing to put on my resume.  I say again, very happy today.

Nice.  I started, stopped, went back, and graduated at 30.  Going back as full time student while working full time sucked, but I got it done and I know I'm in a better spot for it.I don't know your particulars, but just going back as an older person in the room is a bit of weird feeling.

I have a coworker who is a few years younger than me that is finishing up her BS.  She has 3 kids and a full time job and is still working to that piece of paper.  I can't imagine trying to finish a BS as a parent and working full time.

My wife encourages me to go back and get a degree to become a lawyer since I have worked in that field for close to 20 years as an underling.  I know for a fact one of these days I will go back just to learn a couple subjects I want to learn about, not career related.  I know people say it is never too late etc, but I am 40 with 2, 3 year olds at home and a new born coming in a couple months who works full time.  I really have no idea how I would make it work right now.  By time the kids are old enough to kind of fend for themselves I will be well over 50.

But I just got a new Dodge Truck this morning.  I have been driving the Civic for 9 years, so I have that going for me....which is nice.

On purpose? Just kidding. Congrats. Few things are more exciting than a new vehicle.

Honestly the only reason we buy Dodge now is because my dad worked there for 40 years.  We get that discount and every little bit helps at the moment.  Plus it gets my dad all excited when we buy Dodge now.  I was driving a Civic (which I LOVED) the last 9 years because the Stratus I had before that was a piece of crap, and the Stratus I had before THAT was a piece of crap.

I was planning on simply storing the Civic because it is an amazing vehicle, but I have no idea what we are going to DO with it.  My kids will not be of driving age for like 15 years still.  Long time to store a vehicle.

Yeah - you would definitely be 'bad dad' for making them drive that old bomb when all the cool kids have hovercraft.

My mother entered a college classroom for the first time ever at about 40, chipped away at it while working full time, and graduated with her BSN at age 53.

We bit the bullet last week and bought my husband a new, high end recumbent trike.  Among other issues, the new trike is nearly 25 lbs lighter than his old one, upgraded gears, and a larger back wheel all of which make an improved ride, esp. in climbing hills.

He got to take it out for the first time yesterday.  Did 40 miles, 20 of which were into a significant head wind.  He has had a dead end on the bike trails for years because of a particularly steep low water crossing, but with the new trike he was not only able to climb it but did so without any assistance!    He's super happy.  MS150 is next weekend!  Pray that the local weatherman orders up good weather with calm winds!
