Landing Crawford is a dream, but getting Werth is more realistic

Recommended Posts

I love the fact the Tigers were able to get Martinez. It's not a joke or anything, but the Tigers need another bat. There is no way the Tigers will land Crawford. The best option is for the Tigers to go after Jason Werth. I hate to say this, but Maggs is done. He had a great start to the season last year, but got hurt and is just getting older. What are your thoughts and what are the chances that we can get another big bat?

I think I'd rather have Werth. We really need a true HR threat to compliment Miggy, and while Crawford brings allot to the table, and Martinez is a solid hitter, someone like Werth (or Dunn) would really take this lineup to the next level IMO...

First of all I wouldnt take Crawford out of the mix. The Tigers still have money to spend on one other big free agent. The Tigers will, if they havent already, put an offer on the table for either Werth or Crawford that will exceed the value any other team offers. Im convinced that Crawford will receive his biggest offer from the tigers, whether he wants to play he remains to be seen.

We need an OF and we need another bat. DD, in all likelyhood, will be doing whatever it takes to get Werth or Crawford.

I hope you guys are correct, but I just can't see them ladning Crawford. He would bring so much to this team (defense, speed, hitting, #2 or 3 hitter). What more do you want. I just think Jason Werth is a better option with Maggs not being the player he use to be.

If we sign Crawford then we can start Raburn in right, we would be just fine. Heck maybe Boesch will be good again.

I won't bark if the Tigers land Werth - he's a good all around player - but I think he carries one of the biggest chances of busting from this FA class relative to contract. Like, Jason Bay 2010 busting. I have no solid reason for thinking that - it's really just a hunch.

I would not write off Crawford to the Angels if the Tigers offer the top deal. Detroit seems like the type of market he wants, media-wise, etc. Cost of living is better. If he has a home in the Tampa area, spring training in Lakeland might be more appealing than Arizona. Benoit's on board - I read somewhere, but don't know if it's true, that they were road roommates with the Rays. I'd view the Tigers' chances of competing at least on par with the Angels. Lots of reasons why the Tigers might be appealing to Crawford, but like with most FA, the best offer will probably land him, whoever it's from.

I would 100% prefer Crawford over Werth but it's not necessary to throw over 15mill/yr at either. Instead of using up that money on one guy; re-sign Magglio (who is definitley not done), a vet starting pitcher and possibly another arm for the pen.

On top of this, DD goes and makes a trade for this year's starting second baseman or leftfielder who hits second in the line-up.

These options would provide the team much more depth and at least the same production as throwing 15mill+ at Crawford or Werth. If the Tigers can financially fit either player a long with another couple pieces then great! Go for it!

Fine, I'll be that guy. But only because this has already been discussed to death here the last day or so. If you really want everyone's opinions on the questions you';ve asked, you'll find them right here. Hope it helps.

As if there was ever any doubt. You are always that guy.

No, it's usually either Sagnam or Benke. And you're always the guy whining about it.

I even made it a point to be as polite about it as I could. The guy asked for people's opinions, I gave him links to find said opinions. I hope you don't lose any sleep over it.

He knows about the other threads. The OP is a copy and paste of his post in the big bat thread. Apparently the feeling he has warranted another thread.

Actually I was going to be "that guy", but I had started two threads on related subjects yesterday myself. Not sure why we needed a third one, either. But I think everyone is being much more polite about "offering guidance", so what's the big deal?

Which is a bit silly to do, IMHO.

Do you have any analysis to back that up, or is it just a feeling you have?

Well if you example the larger sample, my OE% of starting threads in general is quite low. However within that data set, the ratio of rather goofy and pointless threads may become statistically significant. :pirate:

Yeah, whining about you. How about this, you stop and I will.

Stop what? I was helping the guy. It would be rude of me to stop.

K I'm over it. Happy Thanksgiving Yoda!

Fair enough. HTGD or whatever the acronym for that is.
