2011 NBA Draft

Recommended Posts

Knight >> Morris --- Leonard >>>>>>>> Singler. I don't mind the Knight pick but I would take that trade.

Morris can't shoot the ball worth a damn and isn't as explosive as Knight, imo. I'll take Knight and Singler over Morris and Leonard.

Pistons take Vernon Macklin, from Florida. I think he's the balding guy with dreads. Didn't even know he was in the draft, and I have been follwing it closely.

Can you smell the E'Tuan Moore pick coming up?

That would be sweet, but I'm biased towards Boilers. Obviously we have enough guards too.

We can all agree that whoever is chosen will not see one minute of action.

Hamilton turned into a douche the day Billups left. Like they say, adversity shows your true character. The day Billups left and the Pistons started losing, we saw the true Richard Hamilton.

Really, you hold that against him? What has gone right since Billups was traded?

I guess I can live with that pick...see if he can play at the NBA level.

Overall, not a bad draft. Would have rather had someone like Tyler, Williams or Honeycutt over Singler but I think Singler will be a solid contributor off the bench.

Awesome to see best friends E'Twaun and JaJuan together in Boston!

Amazing that JaJuan was Purdue's 1st First round draft pick since Glenn Robinson in 1994. Just goes to show that good coaching and a quality role players can take you a long way in college hoops.

Didn't Carl Landry go in the 1st?

That is very cool. Been a big fan of those two - and Hummel - for years. Sad to see that era is done at Purdue, but I'm rooting for all three of them.

Heck, if you look at MSU's draft history (not all that impressive), you'd be shocked to see how well the program has done on a national level over the last 15 years or so. Some programs like Kentucky are one-and-done superstar type places, while a MSU and Purdue develop guys that might not have the same ceiling, but are solid college ball players.

Well I wanted a big like most everyone else, but I think we have a PG of the future and man do I like the idea of him and Stuckey as a starting backcourt. 2 guys with size who can score, create and defend(I think Stuckey is very good at defending SGs especially, many PGs are too quick, though having no big rotating to help makes it tough), both young too. More emphasis than ever on dumping Gordon or Rip for a F.

Singler is kind of whatever. Pretty safe type of pick, type of guy you like to have in the locker room. Many prefer the boom or bust type in the 2nd round I know, but I imagine Singler will have at least some type of NBA career and that's pretty good for the area.

I like that we took a guy with size with the last pick. Don't know much about Macklin right now. Might have preferred Smith, but whatever.

Speaking of MSU, we have a Erazem Lorbek sighting! He was involved in the George Hill/Kawai Leonard trade.

No big to take really in our spot. Knight is kind of meh to me. Wasn't really impressed with his shot, nor his shot selection. He took some plays off, and I'm worried he'll be one of those guys to never max out to his potential. I do like that he's extremely intelligent, hopefully he's eager to learn. To be honest, there's 25 Brandon Knight's in the NBA somewhere, and at this point in time, I don't see him as that special.

Macklin is pretty talented, yet he never really put it together at FLA. I was actually down in FL during the NCAA tournament time, and they talked about Macklin like he was kind of soft and uninvolved. There were times that he'd show up and be a beast, and others that he wouldn't make an impact at all in games. That late in the draft though, he's not too bad of a pick.

Also, I just wanted to take this time to boast about my Darius Morris=Marcus Taylor comparsion. Obviously everyone in the NBA thought so, too. Kid shoulda stayed in school, he has a lot to learn. Unfortunately for him, it'll be in the D league instead of getting a degree from UM.

Realistically, it seems like the team didn't like any of those guys that much, considering they could have bought a pick to get the rights to any of those guys for like a McChicken sandwich.

Taylor wasn't a bust because he didn't get drafted high, he was a bust because he never played good basketball after MSU and still hasn't as far as I know. Silly time to gloat IMO. Morris will crack that rotation in LA this year.

I like Knight quite a bit. I think you are underrating him. I like his size, athleticism, shooting, passing and defense. He's not an elite athlete, but he's still pretty good and he's very fast in the open court. His shooting will only get better. He's a born shooter. A guy you want to have the ball in crunch time, straight ice in his veins. People underrate his passing. He doesn't make the fancy passes as well as some of the great PGs, but he's not only smart but instinctive as a playmaker.

So the kid got drafted in the second round just like almost everyone projected, got selected by his hometown team, and doesn't even make it two hours past when he got picked and you're already bragging about labeling him as a Marcus Taylor type bust?

I really don't see LA as being too bad for him. Fisher is 36, and is under contract for one more year, then he has a player option. Brown has a player option this year. Blake is under contract for a few more years, but never started a game last year, and his 4 PPG & 2 APG aren't really numbers that scream he's got a lock on his spot in the rotation.

He probably should have stayed for at least another year, but oh well. If most of us on here had a pretty good idea he'd go somewhere in the 2nd, and the countless amounts of mock drafts out there had him going somewhere in the 2nd, I think it's fair to say he and his agent had a pretty good idea where he was projected to go as well. If he was good with that, which he obviously was, then good for him, and best of luck in the NBA.

A lot of people were proclaiming him as a first round pick on this board. You're twisting my words. I never said LA was a bad place for him. I said that he made a mistake by coming out like Marcus Taylor, he was never going to be a first round pick. I think their college careers were pretty similar, and a very small percentage of 2nd round picks even carve out NBA careers. Best of luck to the guy, he's going to need it. Have fun in the D league next year.

Taylor was a bust because he came out before he was ready. That is my opinion of Morris as well. If he came out next year or the year after, odds are that he'd have been drafted higher. He was drafted 41st in a draft that frankly wasn't very good.

As far as Knight goes, I never really watched him take over a game at Kentucky. I thought his shot selection was bad at best, and while he did have "good shooting mechanics" as you'd say, he didn't make shots. He's also not a good defender yet, so I don't know what you're talking about there. Defense is more about effort than skill, though. He's the type of guy you're happy fell to you at 15, not 8. And if all the people came out that could have in this class, that's exactly where he'd have gone.

Stuckey is not a good defender and he's undersized at the SG as well, which is why everyone keeps trying to stick him in at PG. Not to mention that he can't actually shoot. The kid has no range and requires the ball in his hands. And let's not even get into his attitude problems and the fact that you'd be pulling the job away from him again and giving it to a rookie.

I don't want to see Stuckey in a Piston uniform next season. We've drafted a guy to be the PG of the future and we already have two other SGs who are better at shooting. He's not going to be happy coming off the bench and you can't tell a guy you want him to step up and lead, then think he's going to suddenly change that mentality without griping and causing locker room trouble. He has no purpose here. It's time for him to go.

With this draft and the last one it seems that Joe is trying to get guys in here that have good character first and foremost. Monroe and Knight seem to be high IQ, high character guys. With that in mind, it's time for Joe to clean house on the attitudes and pave the way for his new coach.

All he has to do with regard to Stuckey and Tay is nothing - since they're free agents, it will take care of itself. Then get on the phones and trade Rip for a bag of balls. If you're lucky maybe you can find someone stupid enough to take CV. Once you do that, you've gotten rid of most of the guys who prefer complaining and tweeting to shutting their mouths and playing.

Even if we suck, I'm sure Piston fans will appreciate a team that just plays ball instead of the drama we endured last season.

Show me a player in this draft without a huge hole in their game. No, Knight is not a savior PG. But at 8 what other options did we have? We lost out on all the big men and the other PF's left all have huge question marks too. If Knight can develop into a good starting PG and allows Stuckey to either come off the bench or play SG then it is good for the team.

I don't watch a lot of college ball but I have seen enough Duke games to know Singler is going to be a good hustle guy who will be a decent rotation player. In the 2nd round, that is all you can hope for.
