Is there anything that can be done about dem bums outside of copa!?

Recommended Posts

Where are these dark allies and corners you speak of? I have been to copa many times, never paid 20 bucks for parking and have never parked where there arent an abundance of people, cops or lights.

Its like being outside of any other stadium besides the palace since its in the burbs. But I like going into the city for games and events, thats why owners put them there. Denver, Seattle, Detroit its all the same when it comes to game days, bums are out.

If you are paying $20 for a baseball game then you are not passing any bums. If you are then you got ripped off and gave a homeless guy $20 to park in a free lot or on the street.

I found this comment unnecessary.

It was a joke in response to another post about blueadams and women. Sorry if you find it unnecessary or offensive. While we are on the topic of unnecessary, I feel this whole thread is.

WOW

three pages of responses and still, no one is acknowledging the point of this thread.

...you're all calling me insensitive, soft, calling my sisters soft, telling them to toughen up, telling them to get used to it, etc.

stupid.

the fact is that copa is not a family atmosphere. nothing in shitroit is. places like auburn hills and pontiac are.

so why in the hell would some rich owner build a stadium for a team in detroit instead of in oakland county or something?

all you fools that love detroit so much, you're lucky to have had illitch. problem is, he's old, and he'll be the last successful person ever to come from the inner city of shitroit. no future owner is going to give a **** about the city's faded history. all it is now is garbage. big flint.

I feel the same way about the Girl/Boy Scout troops, school groups, sport teams, bands that hang out in front of my local grocery store every weekend.

On a positive note, I think I may have come up with my unemployment solution.

"Hey, Sugar.... do you know what nation this is?"

Don't avoid the censor, and don't use that phrase to replace Detroit, please.

All of us fools that can capitalize our sentences don't agree with you. In your eyes that makes us "stupid". If you don't like the board, then...

If you don't like Detroit, get the F out!

Let's tone down the hostility a bit.

He's entitled to his opinion, and folks here have responded to it.

No need to get personal.

thank you.

My bad SMR, didn't mean it in a hostile tone. Just joking around with Blue.

Woo-hoo!

Also everyone needs to join ChasF's twitter page for Simpson's quotes. That has real potential.

Thanks for the plug! Come on, all you Simpsons fans, please make it worth my while!

It's a great family atmosphere.

We get there early. My younger children don the cap of the visiting team and try to get balls from the relief pitchers to pass along to even younger children.

If the kids were younger we'd ride the rides. Instead we look for people to whom to give our ride coupons.

There are restaurants you can go to before the game downtown. You could visit the Children's Museum or DIA without too far to go.

The Palace, in contrast, is just a huge parking lot.

Even the homeless and/or panhandlers have led to some great discussions about how some of them are chosing to do this. Others have little or no choice. We've discussed income inequity in the US and why some -in good faith- don't view it as a problem (or as big a problem) as others. We've talked about how you can support a soup kitchen instead of individual people if you are worried about substance abuse.

Plus some of those guys are fun. I'm relieved the Chrysler guy on Adams and Woodward is not a professional musician. I wish the saxophone guy would learn something beyond the Simpson's theme and the UM Fight Song.

Sorry, Blue, we have all addressed it. We just think you are wrong and overreacting.

How is Comerica not a family atmosphere? In park rankings they rank high in that stuff because of the rides they have at the park, Sundays are kids day and they face painting and and kids get to run the bases and stuff so I don't know where you are coming from with that. Saying Pontiac is more a family atmosphere than Detroit is kind of funny.

Downtown is actually pretty nice. The stadiums are nice, there are some cool bars around the stadiums and down in Greektown and the area by the Riverwalk is coming along, campus martius is a funny place to go skating in the winter. My guess is you don't spend anytime downtown other than going to games and go off a lot of generalizations people have about the city. Downtown really isn't a bad area, most of the neighborhoods aren't very nice at all sure, but if you stay in the downtown area, which it sounds like you want to do, it is nice.

I've been to other ball parks and I really don't think it is much different most big league parks.

As far as the homeless, people have pointed out in this thread, the vast majority of them are harmless. In any major city there are homeless people so I don't know what you want to happen but it's just life.

I'm confused. What is the point of the thread I'm missing? The point I'm seeing is that Blueadams is a fear monger and has no clue about life.

Oh, snap! Blue has been banned! Whoa!

Anyone else think it's ironic and/or funny that he lists his location as Detroit?

Not really. I believe he's a troll and he pushed his trolling too far. I doubt he has a sister or ever been to Comerica.

I almost suggested he change it to "****roit", at least in the service of consistency, but I thought the better of it.

A couple of random thoughts:

  • I hate paying for parking anywhere I go, and Comerica is no exception. So I park up on Woodward for free. It's a bit of a walk -- maybe 1/2 mile -- but I'm healthy enough to do it. It's a well-traveled street so I don't expect any funny business with the car, and if a late model German sedan with Illinois plates doesn't get defaced there, your car won't, either. If you don't mind walking, you can keep your money in your pocket until you get to the beer stand inside.
  • The homeless guys in Detroit are pretty much the same as the guys in Chicago. Most of them are old and black, and I think many of them are benignly mentally ill as well, so they are barely capable of causing any trouble. Walk right by them when they hold their hand out, and many of them will say "God bless you" as you pass (and you don't even have to sneeze to rate that). Way different from the homeless in San Francisco or Los Angeles, a lot of whom tend to be young white and young black guys who get really aggressive and vocal with you. Those are the guys who make me nervous, not the guys who hang out near ballparks in the Midwest.

On my facebook page after Monday's game I posted a picture of a late model BMW getting towed by the police on a flatbed. They were getting ready to take two more vehicles too. Happy Labor Day! I would post the picture but don't have an online acct. right now to link to.

I've also seen traffic enforcement putting out citations in this one spot on Bagley that people like to park. I never know the rules, if there are any, but for $5 I'm not risking it. Not worth the fine/hassle of dealingw ith the City of Detroit. Khan can have my money.
