Any thoughts on 2B Brian Roberts -- for the Tigers, who's doin' a rehab assignment right now?

He's scrappy. It would be like having another Brandon Inge on the field. Fewer strikeouts, but still too many.

back issues on an expensive speed player..not a good idea.

Great player though.

He's on my fantasy team, so I've been reading on his condition all season... It seems a virus infection messed him up pretty bad. He could have been back by now, had he not been so badly sick... I know it's a risk, but it might be worth it.

Heck, he's got to be a better option than Carlos Guillen.

Move AJAX to 9th, bat Roberts/Damon 1/2 .. hey, it's just a thought... I mean, how much can one talk about Dan Haren?

Brian Roberts is a prince in Baltimore, Peter Angelos adores him and the Orioles desperately need him back atop their batting order. Granted, they aren't going anywhere this year, but the trade cost for Roberts would be fantastically expensive, if they'd even put a price tag on him.

Personally I have always been a huge Brian Roberts fan (DontGotSheed = Tar Heel Fan), and I would pee my pants if he came to Detroit. That being said, he never will. The O's wouldn't give him up. Despite missing half the season, he will be a big part of their offense. It sure would be nice to have a another career .775 OPS (dragged down by his first two seasons) player in this lineup.

Wiggington will still be on the team. If the O's trade any offensive player, it will be Miguel Tejada.

Wigginton and Tejada remind me of Andrew Dice Clay 2010 version.

MLB Trade Rumors story about available starting pitching. I'm intrigued by the idea of the Tigers re-acquiring Edwin Jackson from Arizona. He's owed about $10 Million over the rest of 2010 and 2011 (about $2 million in 2010 and $8.35 million in 2011 after which he's a free-agent). If we took on his salary, I doubt we'd have to give up extraordinary prospects to get him. He eats innings and is sometimes excellent. This would help if Bonderman leaves after 2010...in fact, it's probably an upgrade.

What think thee great minds herein?

Lets shoot higher..he has one half season of solid pitching and many half seasons of not very consistent pitching all strung together.

Didn't the Tigers trade him because he was going to be a free agent after '11 and they didn't think they'd be able to resign him?

I think it'd be too embarrassing for the D'Backs to trade him back to the team they got him from, and get lesser prospects for him than what they gave up to get him in the first place.

Don't think it'll happen.

As a stopgap, I'd be OK with it. He'd leave after 2011, transitioning between current JV-Scherzer-Porcello (when he gets back, if he's effective) - and ???, ??? to: add in Crosby, Oliver, Turner... whoever might be ready by 2012.

I'm OK with Bondo and Galarraga as #4 and #5... but that says Porcello must be an effective #3, and soon; and that Bondo re-signs with us for a couple fairly-priced years (doesn't become overpriced), and that Galarraga at least continues to be a league-average pitcher...

So yeah... I would be OK with Edwin for a year and a half.. although I wouldn't want to count on him as an effective #3... more like a stopgap #4 or 5.

But I don't think it'll happen for the reason stated above...

Perhaps a silly question, and probably many reasons to shoot it down - but, would the Tigers have the money to bring back Brandon Lyon if he were to become available in a trade, and try out Phil Coke in the rotation? Do we have anybody Houston would be interested in? Also, if Johnny Damon were to get really hot over the next few months, would there be any chance of him being back with Detroit next year?

Why would they move Coke to the rotation after he's proven himself to be their second best (and probably their most versatile) reliever? That would create a hole in the rotation and I doubt Lyon's the guy to fill it.

Whoa, Lyon averages 4.12 BB/9?

Cats, yeah, Coke is great as set-up, but so was Lyon for the Tigers last year - and I am not too thrilled with the names being bandied about to be our regular 3rd or 4th starter. I know that Lyon's contract price was out of the question at the beginning of THIS year, but perhaps he could be had for less than the price that Oswalt and Haren would demand and we could afford to try out Phil Coke in the rotation. Anyway, didn't Leyland recently said that the team needs more bull pen help?

Yes, he did. And I doubt his idea of bullpen help is to move his second best reliever out of the bullpen and replacing him with garbage.
