Aston Villa 2, Wigan Athletic 0

As a WBA fan, I'll take that. Keep the teams 3+ points behind WBA at least that far behind. Of course, a draw works best, but if one team has to win, let it be Aston Villa.

You say that now. I wonder what you were saying when it was 2-0.

I was saying "hurry up and win."

You never count out United. The best thing that SAF has done is instill that team with a sense that it can - and should - win every game. He doesn't always get the formations right, but he gets the team ethos right every time.

This is a subpar United roster that is being spent blooding youngsters and they're top of the league and have yet to lose a game. If United win the League this year - far from a given - it will be one of Fergie's best seasons ever, if not the best.

Fernando Torres and Chelsea talks are getting interesting...sounds like he has put in a transfer request and wants to leave. They are cutting it close with the deadline come on quick.

I dont know how much it helps Chelsea this season, can someone explain to me would he be eligible to play in the champions league? Because that and securing a top 4 spot is what Chelsea is fighting for now, dont think they can get to 1.

I believe he would be eligible since Liverpool did not qualify for Champions League this year.

Torres is one of the best strikers in the world when he's healthy and is getting proper passes. Torres and Drogba up front instantly make Chelsea the most dangerous team in the England.

Given the time crunch, the amount of money involved and the fact most transfer rumors dont come true, I dont have much faith that this is going to happen. But it would be interesting.

Newest rumors have Anelka going the other way in a possible move, I guess if you add Torres you dont really need Anelka anymore, rather have him moving than a young guy like Sturridge (whose name was originally brought up)

Seems like a ton of money

CHELSEA TO OFFER £50M TO SEAL FERNANDO TORRES DEAL

FERNANDO TORRES is on the brink of a British- record £50million switch to Chelsea today with Liverpool desperately lining up a trio of deals.

Anfield officials spent hours in talks with Torres and his agents from Bahia International yesterday as they stressed the imminent club-record £23m capture of Luis Suarez underlined the ambitions of owners, the Fenway Sports Group, and insisted they want him to stay.

However, a contingency plan has been drawn up in the event of Torres, who had a written transfer request rejected last Friday, departing with FSG principal owner, John W Henry, having personally spoken with Aston Villa counterpart Randy Lerner over a deal for Ashley Young.

Blackpool’s Charlie Adam remains in their sights and the paperwork on Suarez’s move from Ajax is set to be rubber-stamped.

No new bid from Chelsea has been submitted since a £35m offer was rebuffed last Thursday, but officials are confident they can conclude the deal before the transfer deadline.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is prepared to match the £50m escape clause which will be triggered in Torres’s contract in the summer if Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Abramovich will, if necessary, sanction a straight cash deal for Torres and is prepared to pay him £200,000 a week, but would prefer a player-plus-cash deal which could involve Nicolas Anelka.

Liverpool have dismissed talk of taking Daniel Sturridge as a makeweight.

Torres trained on his own yesterday after Liverpool agreed he could return late from Madrid, where he had gone after he and his team-mates were given time off, rather than as any form of punishment for his actions that have stunned Liverpool fans.

£30m bid by Liverpool for Andy Carroll turned down by Newcastle. Rumors circulating they will bid as high as £35m.

I understand the Fenway group's need to replace Torres's goals (primarily) and show their willingness to spend (secondarily), but a £58m package for Carroll and Suarez seems risky in the extreme, for all kinds of reasons.

Im sure this means that the Torres deal is done since they are getting Carroll now

Newcastle accept £35m bid for Andy Carroll

It has been reported that Newcastle have accepted an improved bid of £35m for their top striker Andy Carroll. It seems like a snowball effect is happening after Liverpool accepted Chelsea’s £50m offer for Fernando Torres, which has resulted in the cash being available for Carroll.

The Sky Sports Editor said on Twitter: Reports are emerging that Liverpool have agreed a £35million fee with Newcastle for Andy Carroll. Nothing confirmed as yet but we’ll bring you more as we get it.

This morning Sky Bet had taken bets on Carroll to move to Liverpool at 16/1 and the bets have poured on during the day. An hour ago he was as short as 1/5 on and now they have refused to take any more bets on the chances of his moving to Anfield.

Sky have also revealed a flood of money on Liverpool to get their other main target, Blackpool’s Charlie Adam, as Liverpool try and soften the blow of losing Torres.

Now the snowball effect must surely mean that the next biggest news will be who Newcastle have got lined up to replace Carroll?

If anyone needs their EPL fix check out this link. It's the starting of my replay of last year's EPL season. I'll never finish it, but that's okay. I'm having fun.

And here's one with more games played from the 2008-09 season...

http://forums.delphiforums.com/dtropps/messages/?msg=22.1

In short, Man U's doing well but ManCity is doing terrible, with only one point in five games. These are actual lineups, so dt can't rip me too much. Chelsea has yet to lose a game, drawing its first game of the season recently.

The Guardian and the BBC are usually reasonably reliable fwiw.
