Tigers VS Braves game 3 pics

Recommended Posts

I think there are 2 things at play here.

1. motion blur....the end of the bat is traveling faster than the handle

2. depth of field....the end of the bat is out of the plain of focus a small amount

If you take a straight edge along the bat, you will see that it is straight.

Really?

You are a little more scientific then I. I just used a scrap of paper:wink:

A bat is not without angle as it tapers from head to handle, but your point is well taken as it appears to be somewhat flexed as your diagram illustrates.

Good job!!

I remember during the World Series in 06, Guillen hit a ball and they showed the high-speed camera... the bat flexed, and then vibrated a bit. It was the craziest thing I ever saw. Of course I'm sure it mostly has to do with what part of the bat was hit.

Those weird flexes in the bat are exactly what travel up your arm and rattle all your nerves when you foul one off on cold day -- all the resonant frequencies in the bat happen to match your bones. Hurts just writing about it...

What was the brand and model of the camera you used?

Sony A700 and a 70-200G lens

Excellent stuff, calpon! Thanks for sharing. I like the shots of Verlander and Valverde that also feature Cabrera and a baserunner in the background.

If you happen to check out any other Braves games down there, you oughta take pix and post 'em in the MLB forum.
