Casey Crosby?

Recommended Posts

Staying healthy is the big thing this season...He's posted a crazy high BB/9 -- the highest in the Eastern League among eligible pitchers by .8. He's also posted a pretty ridiculous GB rate though. Almost Porcello-esque. He could go a number of directions next year and should be an interesting guy to watch.

Considering his health past as well as the fact he's pitching two levels higher than he ever had in the past while essentially barely pitching last year, I think we can consider this a successful year for Casey.

Oof, after what was probably the best outing of his career on August 19th (8IP - 6H - 0ER - 0BB - 7K), Crosby comes back with what was probably the worst outing of his career tonight: 5 IP - 8H -8ER - 1BB - 6K - 3HR

One walk in his last 13 innings? That's good to see at least.

Baby steps, and I think we all know this. A good, healthy season is key for him.

If all he does this year is stay healthy and cut down on his walks, I'll take that .. and look forward to 2012.

I think if he can pitch well for us and stay healthy thru next year we could use him in a small trade. Right now IMO he does nothing for this team. The rotation is pretty much set for next year (Verlander,Max,Porcello,Fister and Turner). Only way CC really would help this team is long relief. And if he is walking guys at the rate he is then no thanks.

Another stinker last night - 2.1 IP - 7H - 5ER - 2 BB - 3K - 1 HR

But then Luis Marte came in - 3.2 IP - 3 H - 0R - 0BB - 10K!

Wow!! Great to see that from Martei! He was one of my favorite prospects a few years ago until he was injured.

Crosby will never throw a pitch in the major leagues

I disagree with this. I think he'll be a solid bullpen piece eventually.

I think he'll be our 5th starter in 2013.

My guess is he's pitching crappy right now due to fatigue. He has to build his stamina back up after missing most of 2010. Next year he'll make a huge leap in AA/AAA, and be ready for the rotation the following year. Making 1 of Porcello or Scherzer available for a trade for a 2nd baseman in the 2012 offseason.

Or at least that's what my crystal ball is telling me...

Check out the recent monthly splits on both Luis Marte and Drew Smyly, talk about two guys on a roll, dang.

Marte working his way into the off-season 40 man discussion.

Its too early to say either way on Crosby, but if he does stay healthy, he's likely in our rotation at some point. 2013 sounds reasonable. I'd like to see 2 of our lefties in the rotation by then(Smyly,Crosby,Oliver,Below) ideally.

Too early to talk about whether we'll be trading a current SP and for what. Despite his struggles, I hope we extend Scherzer in the offseason for 3-4 years. The talent is there and pitching is scarce. Porcello's value has to have taken a massive hit this year so who knows if we can get anything.

Toledo's rotation next year could be 5 LHPs: Oliver, Crosby, Smyly, Below, Wilk.

Or maybe 2 make the Detroit bullpen and DD trades the others...

I'm kinda surprised they are sending him with the amount of innings he's pitched and his recent injury history.

Maybe he'll pitch out of the bullpen, or be limited to 5 IP per start?
