Ben Gordon Has Successful Surgery

The Detroit Pistons announced Wednesday that guard Ben Gordon underwent a successful surgical procedure performed by Dr. Art Manoli to remove bone spurs and loose bodies from his left ankle.

The procedure was performed at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, MI.

Gordon's left ankle will be placed in a cast for three weeks and rehabilitation will begin immediately following removal of the cast.

He is expected to make a full recovery prior to the start of training camp in October.

Why do pro athletes always get hurt, yet I can play volleyball 3-4 times a week, fly into net posts, dive all over the freaking ground and run into a wall or two at 42 and never suffer a serious injury?

I don't know that they "always get hurt" but over the course of a long career and one that usually includes 4 years of college and 4 year of high school play in which the athlete is working out or playing their sport nearly every day they are bound to get hurt at one point or another. And quite often, a player continues to re-aggravate an injury after surgery because they are still playing incredibly hard and physical (ie: a player who has knee surgery regularly re-injures because of the wear and tear they have on it over the course of a season).

And while I don't know how you play volleyball, I seriously doubt the contact and effect is anything like a long NBA season/off-season in which the players push their bodies to the limit.

Have you ever though about becoming a pro athlete? That could be your thing. Never getting injured.
