Hens coast on homer by Boesch

COLUMBUS - The Mud Hens scored four runs in the top half of the fifth inning to fuel a 6-3 win over the Columbus Clippers in a matinee game at Huntington Park yesterday.

With one out in the fourth, Brennan Boesch homered off of the scoreboard in deep right center, also scoring Brent Dlugach and upping the Hens' lead to 5-0.

Armando Galarraga (1-1) went 6.1 innings for the win, allowing three earned runs on five hits, and striking out six and walking one. Josh Rainwater pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in relief before Jay Sborz worked the ninth to collect his third save of the season.

Boesch, who also walked twice, is off to a tremendous start to the year, batting .344 and driving in 11 runs.

Columbus did not record its first hit until the fifth inning but finished with nine.

The Hens are now 4-4 and within a game of leader Columbus in the International League West standings.

Dlugach was 2-for-5 at the plate, scored two runs and drove in two more to up his season RBI total to seven.

He followed Will Rhymes' fifth-inning double with one of his own to plate both Danny Worth and Rhymes.

Jeanmar Gomez absorbed the loss for the Clippers (5-3), allowing five earned runs and nine hits in six innings. Carlton Smith pitched two relief innings, yielding one hit and no runs.

Rhymes and Strieby each had an RBI for the Hens, who play at Indianapolis today to kick off a four-game series.

Columbus scored a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Shelley Duncan before adding two more runs in the seventh on Chris Gimenez's third homer of the year.

Toledo added its final run in the ninth when Worth singled home Robinson Diaz, who led off the inning with a double. Worth was 2-for-4 and is now batting .346.
