New music released in 2010 thread.

Recommended Posts

This was released in late 2009 but I just picked it up a week or so ago. These guys take awhile to appreciate. I actually didn't care for the album after the first listen but after about 5 or 6 it really hits you. If you like ambient music you may like this. This video actually visualizes exactly what their music does to me.

for lack of a better place to say this...

I love finding a really old record that blows me away.

Agreed...one that you may have put away for a long time and randomly decide to pick up one day. Or maybe you hear a song somewhere and it makes you go back to listen to it. Those moments are great!

This was actually something I've never even considered listening to, but did so because a dude who's opinion I trust recommended it. And it is....

Pere Ubu

Loved what I listened to today.

A new group that recently put out their debut album out the UK, called Mumford and Sons, a little folky. The album is called Sigh no More, and I would suggest everyone take a listen, I believe the single was Little Lion Man.

Year Long Disaster on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads

Good classic hard rock sound.

Second CD Black Magic; All Mysteries Revealed is out now. I'm guessing "Show Me Your Teeth" is a radio single, but I don't listen to enough radio anymore to know how much airplay it's getting. I'd play it. It's better than most of whatever new stuff I do get to hear.

There are better tunes than that one, though. I dig "Cyclone", "Stranger In My Room" and "Love Like Blood".

I would really like to see this band live.

This one's really different, and it rocks! I dig the attitude! From Norway, this is Phone Joan. A friend of mine told me about them, and he's actually been raving about it.

The "About Joan" section is a cool read. They've got a creative imagination.

The studio tune on the MySpace isn't bad, but it's got a harsher sound than "Fast Lane". The live tunes are actually a little freaky scary, and I couldn't finish listening to either. But I really dig "Fast Lane".

Local rockers you may not have heard of...THE STANCE! (note that I loved 'em before they were local to me!)

EDIT: I just realized that you can download their first (and fantastic) EP in Mp3 or FLAC format RIGHT HERE!!

Really Excited to get the new one from Dr. Dog which should be arriving on my doorstep any day. They are truely outstanding, featuring fantasic Beach Boy-esque harmonies. They lean hard on their influences while producing a sound which is there own. Their last record "Fate" would be a great place to start for the uninitiated.

I've also really been wanting to order the disc from The Morning Benders. Anybody have it?

Honorable mention from 2009: The Great Lake Swimmers, Lost Channels.

I'm also pretty excited about the reissue of Exile on Main St. I don't usually care about reissues but it appears the Stones are finally opening up the vaults and hopefully this is a sign of more to come. Exile is my favourite record of all time...

They are streaming "Slash's" new record at AOL

slash_slash_204.jpg

I like it a lot. Especially the Myles Kennedy tracks, Chris Cornell and the Ian Astbury track. If you can find it the Itunes only track from Beth Hart is amazing. Can't understand why that isn't on the full release.

Hit DankoJones.com and check out a couple more sweet rockers, "I Think Bad Thoughts" and "Active Volcanoes".

I just pre-ordered my copy of the new CD Below The Belt last night. The US release date was May 18th. Now it's June 8th. D'oh.

allmusic ((( Drowning Pool [2010] > Overview )))

Drowning Pool have never been very much fun, but on their eponymous fourth album the group attempts to up the ante, partially due to much of it being written in the wake of various traumas in singer Ryan McCombs’ personal life. During the creation of Drowning Pool, McCombs lost his father and saw his marriage fall apart, so naturally these events bubble up throughout the 11 songs here, sometimes explicitly and sometimes elliptically. Since Drowning Pool are not a subtle band, they’re best when they address the pain head-on or, better still, avoid it for a dunderheaded rocker like “Horns Up,” which is the closest they’ve gotten to a fist-pumping anthem since “Bodies.” It also indicates what works best on Drowning Pool: McCombs may attempt to mine the darkness but the production is the slickest and cleanest they’ve ever had, which fits because the group’s hard rock has opened up some, no longer confined to a heavy minor grind. They’re still not a lot of fun but here they’re marginally entertaining -- which is both more than they’ve ever mustered before and rather ironic given the record’s tortured origins.

I wish McCombs hadn't left Soil. I was a fan of that band when he was their singer. Scars was a good record, and Redefine had some excellent songs. That album could've been successful if the band's record label at the time had bothered to do any promotion. The guy who took over just isn't very good.

I agree. I really like his voice, and Soil just doesnt seem the same now. In fact, I still listen to Scars.

I just recently listened to this and enjoyed it a lot. That sound of music has been really appealing to me lately. For some reason the harmonies in songs I have listened to recently have been hit a chord (no pun intended).

Similarly, I liked this album:
