Pistons Sale

Recommended Posts

There's no way to do that. Once an entity like that has been given, sold, claimed, whatever, it is the current owner's say in what happens. There was really no way to assure it stayed in family hands. The only possible way would be to stipulate her inheritance based on the fact she would keep the team. And we all know he wouldn't do something like that.

IMO, I think he trusted her, and shouldn't have. She seems like a gold-digger, and in her mind, she probably had them for sale before he passed. She has no sense of loyalty or appreciation towards him or his legacy. She just wants the $$$. She told the public, that the 'pistons were my husband's baby, not mine'. Anyone who is trying to justify her actions or painting her as a saint is painfully blind.

How does selling the team tarnish his legacy or speak to her loyalty - or lack of it? It sounds like you want her to sell the team, but you're trashing her for it.

Who is painting her as a saint?

I don't think there is anything sinister going on, but I do think Mr. Davidson changed the succession plan that included Wilson, Feldman and others.

I agree with this.

You're exactly right. I want her to sell the team because she doesn't care about it, won't put money into it, has no knowledge of how to build a team, and won't put any effort into it. I'm trashing her not for putting the team up for sale, but for the backhanded way in which she is doing it. She had them up for sale before Mr. D was even cold, and that's a shame. It's the typical thing of what happens when a woman marries a billionaire....it was all for the money, and there's not a thing in the world you could tell me to make me think otherwise in this situation.

Nobody on here, but there are people making her sound very innocent...

She just wants them out of her hands so that she can go shopping. I'm convinced $$$ is her only motivation. She has been nothing but cold since she has taken over.

I think someone watched Major League too many times.

Make fun of me if you want...

But anyone who is naive enough to believe she is anything but a gold-digger is a fool. Get some common sense people. Haven't you all seen the stereotypical rich older man marries slightly younger woman (sometimes not so slightly), only to be die and leave her practically everything???? C'mon

People all over the place say lots of outrageous things - it doesn't make it relevant to the conversation going on here, even if you think it bolsters your position.

Thanks for the insight.

I believe that Bill Davidson was a smart man and not one to be fooled by a "gold digger". He has shown in his business career that he can be ruthless when he needs and wants to be. If he wanted the Pistons and Palace Group to stay in the family and they wanted it, then it would have. I doubt you know anything about their relationship to make comments like that.

Since she didn't get the quick sale she wanted, some are suggesting she might be better off waiting until the new CBA is in place before selling.

Most feel the new CBA will favor the owners somewhat. If they get a smaller cap or a hard cap, that would increase the value of the team.

I don't know anything about their relationship, so I guess that puts me in the same boat as YOU. You are just blindly following what you want to believe....the world is just not that gracious of a place.

This would be a bad scenario for the state of the team, and I hope she manages to sell it before this happens.

Apparently Gores was sharing a suite with Davidson at the Pistons game. Not sure if there is anything to make of it, but I guess it isn't a bad sign.

I'm not sure if Gores has been discussed in detail, but what does everyone think of him? I don't know anything other than what is on his Wiki page but after a quick Google search.... I'm thinking he kind of looks like a gigantic tool.

Nice t-shirt.

in the clips at the Palace last night his hair looked like John Travolta's in Saturday Night Fever.

He could look like Jabba the Hutt just as long as he wants to have a winning team vs. a big pay day like the current useless owner.

Gores was raised in the Flint area and is a graduate of Michigan State.

Okay, that explains the tool-ish look he's got going on ;)

But for a serious, Spartan related question ... ugh ... hello Tom Izzo?

Doubtful...I would think.

It is kind of cool that two Spartans now own the Pistons and Cavaliers. Go Green.

How is it "doubtful" .. when all we hear is that Izzo wants to eventually coach in the NBA?

Well, he did call himself a "lifer" at MSU last year after declining the Cavs. Who knows, but I'll take him at his word at this point.

Right. Exactly who is putting out all this talk about him wanting to coach in the NBA? Certainly haven't heard anything like that from Izzo since as monkeynuts said he called himself a lifer during the press conference earlier this year.

And also, what makes anyone think that Izzo would be a successful coach in the NBA?

Not a done deal yet...

Source: Tom Gores hasn't bought Pistons, but negotiations extended

Gregg Krupa / The Detroit News

The Pistons are about to extend exclusive negotiations with the California financier Tom Gores for two weeks. The move comes after negotiations gathered steam this week.

Gores has remained in town for several days to participate in them directly. But sources close to the process told The Detroit News on Thursday there is no agreement in place to sell the team and the two sides continue to bargain on a price.

A report Thursday night that a tentative agreement was reached for Gores to purchase the team for $420 millon was specifically denied.

But enough progress has been made that the original exclusive period of 30 days for Gores to negotiate an agreement will now extend through late February.
