Game 40: Pistons Vs Knicks - 1/18/10

Recommended Posts

Mike D from the Beastie Boys at the game today.

You know, I hated the Beastie Boys back in the day, but now when I hear their songs, I do jam them.

Don't know why that's happened, but it has.

Wait a minute. Don't the Pistons usually play at home on MLK day? Seems like they bring in a bunch of kids and let them do some work and what not.

I have been hard on Daye. But you can see glimpses of talent now and then. I still think he has a low BB IQ. That could just be lack of experience though. Still would have preferred Lawson.

I think this is the second straight year they didn't play on MLK. You are right historically though. I always played hooky from work because you were able to get some great bargains for tickets for the game regardless how good or bad they were. Usually the games have been around 3:30 p.m.

Is there a stat that tells you what percentage a guy shoots just in the basket area? I would like to know what Stuckey's percentage in the basket area is. Even though he is a bad finisher, I bet he could still shoot 45-50% if he only took shots in the basket area. It seems like he can get a decent shot from there at will sometimes.

Has it been poor defense or just a case that NY can't miss a jumper today so far?

I haven't been watching that closely but it seems like the Pistons are not really challenging NY's perimeter jump shots.

Check out the "Shot Location" stats.

I also made a post a few weeks ago that compared Stuckey to other players and how they finished around the rim. Not sure if you saw it.

I think I asked this question a few years ago and someone gave me a site. That popcorn basketball site frequently answers many questions. Not sure it that is the site though. I'm sure someone will answer the question.

But if you really wanted to take some time, you could check the shot charts for every game this year and get your info that way. :classic:

Edit: I see D's on the ball.

I'm really getting tired of teams shooting 50% or better against the Pistons this year.

57-43 at the half - Knicks lead.

Thanks. That is about what I expected. I guess the next step is to look at how he compares to the great finishers. I looked up Tony Parker and Wade, and they are about 10% higher. I don't expect him to be Parker or Wade but I do think Stuckey has the same ability to get to the rim and get a decent shot as Parker and Wade. If only he could finish a little better.

Good defensive teams have post players that protect the hoop. The Pistons just don't have anybody like that this year and we are going to have to suffer through watching teams shoot well against us the rest of this year. This is also why I think you could make the argument that a big guy may even be more of a need on this team than a point guard.

Nothing great, but it gives you an idea how he does against others in the league a little bit.

Parker is a good analysis, Parker doesn't shoot well from the outside and doesn't rack up assist, he does pretty much one thing and that's get to the lane.

Jason Maxiell is really bad.

I know Stuckey gets a bad rap on this board, but when he comes out we are hapless.

One of the worst contracts in the league too. Pretty much untradeable because of it.

Good timing. Stuckey comes out of the game and our offense looks awful.

I would rather have Maxiell's contract than Rip's.

I probably have been as soft on Joe D as anyone over the years in terms of being overly critical, but that was one deal that puzzled me. It just seemed like you could sign him one-year deals. If he left, big deal - the league is full of so-so energy-type players that are over-emphasized for their contribution when they have that 5-minute spurt that seemingly "dominates" the game once every couple weeks. And forgotten is what little they bring beside that energy. Two years tops.
