Shoulder separation sidelines Zetterberg - NHL.com - News

Detroit Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg will be out of the lineup for a minimum of two weeks after suffering a slight left shoulder separation during last night's 3-0 Red Wings victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning at Joe Louis Arena.

Zetterberg was injured in a first period collision with Lightning defenseman Mattias Ohlund. He left the game at that point and did not return. Further tests performed after last night's game revealed the slight separation.

Zetterberg was helped off with 1:43 left in the period after the hit from Ohlund. Zetterberg was on the ice on his hands and knees before being helped off.

Detroit is already without Johan Franzen, Valtteri Filppula, Jason Williams, Niklas Kronwall, Dan Cleary, Darren Helm and Jonathan Ericsson because of injuries.

Zetterberg has 10 goals and 22 assists in 34 games to lead the team in scoring.

"That was unfortunate," Ohlund said. "I'm not trying to hurt anybody. I like to play hard."

Detroit coach Mike Babcock, who didn't know the extent of the injury or how long Zetterberg would be out immediately after the game, said Zetterberg drove himself to the hospital to get an MRI after the game.

"He's taking the MRI right now," Babcock said. "He drove himself over, so he's fine. He's probably just upset with himself; he shouldn't have gotten hit like that. But what do you do?"

It was a good, hard, clean hockey hit. Our guy just got the worst of it. Anyone know who they are calling up? That player is going to tear an MCL getting off the bus from Grand Rapids.

Helm is going to come back from his injury, so no need to call anyone up.
