How much could we get in a trade for Miguel Cabrera!?

Recommended Posts

First of all, he's clearly an alcoholic. That's no laughing matter. Anyone that can drink that much, and play in a baseball game some ten hours latter, is an alcoholic. This isn't a one night thing. It's a career long thing, to this point. Its rumored to be the reason the Marlins were shopping him in the first place. Given that, he's still one of the best two or three hitters in the game. Imagine how good he could be if he ever got it together - Pujols? That's clearly the selling pitch...for us and others.

Second, he was probably still legally drunk at the biggest game of his life as a tiger. There are alcoholics...and there are pieces of garbage. He let his entire team down. Do you think Ty Cobb ever would have done that the night before a pennant clinching game!?? Heck no. This guy's a loser. He doesn't care at all. Trade him for as many prospects as we can get before the rest of the league realizes this. How many could we get!? Probably three or four top notch, right!?

Build this team around defense, pitchers, and solid baseball, like the Twins. Move that left field wall back out. Pick up a stud pitcher and two or three great position prospects in trading Miggy. Move Maggs to DH. Hire a new hitting coach from the Angels organization.

There is so much flawed "logic" in this post that I don't even know where to start. Rather than take this apart piece by piece I'm just going to say that you may want to choose a player other than Cobb to use as your gold standard for personal character.

I thought that was the real gem in this piece as well.

No, he would have been out on a lynching.

If I remember correctly, Carlos Guillen was known as a heavy drinker when we got him from the Mariners. He was roughly 29 when we got him, & he's turned in several solid seasons. Cabrera is 26. He's already one of the best hitters in baseball. With the right help, he can overcome this & give us another 10+ years. It would take something nuts for me to even consider trading him.

Oh, & Slim .. this is beautiful.

Carlos' troubles as a partier were a big factor in the M's getting rid of him. A much-publicized DUI, and much partying with Freddy. He was seen, at the time, as a bad influence on Freddie, according to the press up here in the NW, and Freddie was the bigger talent so he stayed (for a while). It seems he has turned it around. I am hopeful for Miguel.

I love our society, really. So many of you have never obviously drank. Drinkin' is for them sinners ya say. Miggy is a lost cost. We really should just shoot anyone that is over weight, smokes or drinks. Then you'd people be happy.

The dude used HORRIBLE decision making, for sure. But to call the guy an alcoholic over an incident is just another form of witch hunting - which some of you are extremely good at.

I wish I was as perfect as some of you. So does Miguel.

Well, i'm gonna stop reading this **** for the night. Gonna watch a real hero, some one who would NEVER let us down.

Thank dog we have Bret Favre ......

You sound like my 9th grade Health teacher, talking about bad influences and guys who drink being "losers".

If the guy can play baseball, he can play. It has never been a problem, so for all we know, this is an isolated incident. You can't prove otherwise, because there is no other issues.

Actually it was a problem. Miguel was just awful the last 2 games of the year. Everyone noticed he wasn't smiling and pulled his foot off the base on an easy double play attempt.

He was not like this all year. Something ticked him off at years end and affected his play. It reminded me alot of Maggs and Pudge who both went into huge funks when they were worried about their wives.

Trade for Jesus?

What about trading him to San Francisco for Jesus Guzman?

Or to KC for David DeJesus?

You tryin' to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?

He could be our closer...

I heard he saves. <rimshot>

That was horrible.

Well he sure can't play hockey. He was getting nailed to the boards far too often.

You guys are nuts if you don't think Ilitch has already told Dombrowski to put out feelers.....

Obviously that doesn't mean you do it. But with over $100 million of the family fortune invested in this guy it would be terribly irresponsible to not consider whether that's money well spent. I'm certain that if they've not yet had the disscussions then they will this winter.

The discussion will be more about fixing the issue. Cabrera needs to face some sort of punishment for this otherwise it won't teach him anything.

IMO: The Tigers should make him go to some sort of counseling for his issues or even AA. They had warned him once in August not to go back to that place, and he did anyways. If I were Ilitch and Dombrowski I would tell Cabrera..."Your choice AA this winter or suspension next spring"

I think it is just as likely that Ilitch could have told DD not to entertain talks because Miguel is "his guy". Illitch is loyal to a fault sometimes.

I'd say, if we can get Prince Fielder for Miggy, pull the trigger. I'd much rather have a power hitting LEFT handed firstbaseman. Otherwise try and get the guy some help before he ends up like Billy Martin - dead in a truck. I can't believe there are many buyers right now anyway.

Rule #1. You don't sell when what you are selling is at it's record low in value. And folks, as of yesterday, Cabrera's value is a low as it's been in years.
