So, since the ASB, Ordonez has been excellent, no doubt. It's obvious that playing him has turned out to be the right thing, no matter how much the available facts militated against it.

You do realize though, right, that his season-long production is still pretty darn poor, even with a ".290 something" batting average? He's 17th out of 26 regular ML rightfielders, and 10th out of 12 AL RF. Not exactly "18 million dollar" rankings.

Overall, he is the 48th best hitting OF in the majors.

So he is solidly below average for OF in 2009, just considering offense. His defense continues to be a bit below average as well. fangraphs suggests his 2009 performance was worth 6.9 million dollars.

Technically, to earn his money next season, he would need to post a WAR of 4.0 or so.

In other words, he'll have to get his OPS into .850-.900 range, given the defense he plays and the position. It seems hard to imagine that a guy could be as far in the tank as he was for 250 AB and then pull out of it to be a 4.0 WAR/.880 OPS guy for a full season, but...I guess it's possible.
