The problem with Holliday isn't so much his ability. He'll play a solid outfield and he'll produce probably around an .850 OPS. There's definitely a spot on this team for that. The problem is that Billy Beane likes to fleece teams in deals, and their price will probably be too high.

He fleeced AZ in that Haren deal..oh wait..he didn't..there is a difference in thinking your fleecing someone..and getting fleeced.

In order to get Holliday we will probably have to give them Crosby, Ramirez and Strieby. Is it worth it? Of course, if we make the deal and then offer Holliday arbitration, we would get a 1st round pick and a sandwich pick between the 1st and 2nd round.

Scott..he may get stuck with Holliday..offer him arb..and he could accept..for 16MM..this growing concern is likely going to reduce Beane's asking price.

That and the fact that there will not be many buyers this year. One of Ramirez or Crosby will probably have to go, though, imo. They have to get one of our top prospects in the deal.

We need him again..why..

Again? I wasn't aware the Tigers had him at one point.

In fact, I looked it up, and he was never property of the Tigers. ???

If you're saying "again" to mean we already have players like him, I don't totally disagree...but I just think he'd be an upgrade to what we have. He wouldn't be an earth-shaker, but I think he could be pretty solid.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm not ready to trade Porcello and Perry for him. But if we can get him on the cheap, I wouldln't mind having him.

I didn't say he's fleeced the other team in every deal

Juan Pierre is definitely available. But, he's another albatross contract. For a guy with his speed, his fielding isn't all that great, and I just don't know if his skill set is anything we need to go and grab right now. Spilborghs is a solid player, but his career OPS is about 100 points lower away from Coors, so that concerns me.

I like the DeJesus idea better than the others, for sure. I do have some problems with how he's played this year, but he's a quality talent.

Hmmmm...that is sobering. But I have a question: Is Coors still such a great hitter's park since they started freezing the baseballs? I honestly don't know...

Ty..we never had him..he is just too similar as a hitter, away from Coors, to Raburn..it's not worth expending resources to duplicate a player you already have.

The ball still carries way further in Coors. Also, Coors has a tendency to flatten out breaking balls and reduce fastball movement. The humidor/freezing stuff has helped restore some of the movement on pitches, but once the ball is hit, it's still going to go further than normal.

I didn't know there was such a dropoff away from Coors....with that info, I agree that he probably isn't worth expending any significant resources.

Besides, after tonight, I'm ready to annoint Raburn the starting right fielder and cleanup hitter!! :classic:
