Oakland looking to trade Matt Holliday?? Tigers should get him

Recommended Posts

Your kidding right? Inge is the best third baseman in the AL right now, with only A-Rod (whose been suspended) and Longoria in the picture. Beltre is having a sub par season both offensivly and defensivly. Beltre is also older then Inge, do you know what upside even is?

Inge is having a second career year and is among the league leaders in a few catagorys.

I am not sure if you misunderstood my post but let me elaborate. Beltre is as good as Inge defensively. Beltre won the last two gold gloves and is without a doubt one of the best defensive third baseman in the game. I think you can make a case for either player defensively but it is without a doubt close. Also, Beltre is having a subpar season and that is why I suggested him as a buy low candidate. However, Beltre has 7 seasons in his career with more than 20 home runs while Inge has 1. Beltre has a .269 career average compared to .238 for Inge. There is your greater upside. And finally, Beltre is actually 2 years younger than Inge.

While I wouldn't give up a lot to get Beltre because I don't know that he is going to be better than Inge this year, he does have a more proven track record and I do think is a good buy low candidate now for some team out there.

I don't think we need Holliday either, & I wouldn't give up top prospects to get him, BUT...

IF they're willing to take on either Dontrelle's contract or Magglio's I'd consider it.

While I like Beltre as a player more than Inge, there's no point in buying low for him, since we'd have no place to put him.

Beltre is leading the majors in UZR for 3B, so, not at all a subpar season defensively. And yeah, 2 years younger than Inge. You really should try asking the googles before you post.

Oakland is going to either have to take a B level prospect in return for Holliday or get a better prospect but also take a contract back that some other team wants to unload. My guess is that will end up taking a B level prospect for Holliday.

ARod has been suspended? Did I miss something?

I think he means Aramis Ramirez, who plays in the NL. While A-Rod likely juiced in the past, all it seems he's guilty of lately is being a douchenozzle.

Anyway, I bleed Tiger blue, but I get really sick of this Inge-as-best-3b-in-the-AL crap. You people are saying you wouldn't trade Brandon Inge for Evan Longoria straight up because you think we'd get rooked?

Mike Valenti is a joke of a "radio personality," this is the same guy who swears that the Tigers starting pitching staff is the worst in the AL Central, despite all of their numbers being better than everyone in Cleveland's rotation and Kansas City's rotation sans Greinke and Lee.

Just last week Mike was claiming that Edwin Jackson wasn't that good this year (league average pitcher, maybe, *maybe* a #2 pitcher on a bad team, if I recall correctly). Mike thinks trading Matt Joyce for him was a mistake, and further claimed Edwin has only had a few good starts this year. Mike then went on to say he didn't know the Tigers would acquire Josh Anderson to play left, and suggested that the Anderson acquisition made the Jackson for Joyce deal more acceptable, as if that deal wasn't a good one on its face thus far. He said all of this with Terry Foster agreeing with him blindly in the five minutes it takes me to go from work to home.

My six-year old says fewer incorrect or unsupportable things in a typical day than what Mike did in that 5-minute span.

Yeah, I caught Mike in a discussion about this trade on spartantailgate.com, absolutely clobbered him. I brought in Jackson's enormous improvement in K/BB and FIP as proof that he's turned the corner, and he pulled the gutless "well, it looks like a good deal so far, we'll see in August" move. I like Mike, but his refusal to admit he was wrong about Edwin Jackson is hilarious.

I think vannzee was hitting the sauce before that post.

Yeah, almost nothing in that post is correct. However I think it's a really bad idea to think about addressing an upgrade the Tigers really don't need at 3rd. Not to mention a 3rd baseman that this city loves, who's having the same if not better numbers the year the Tigers went to the World Series.

Right now we're a playoff team, and our bullpen hasn't proven itself playoff caliber/ready. IMO we address that, and figure out a way that "The Big Pineapple" isn't our backup catcher.

Yeah, we don't have enough corner OF's as things stand:

Maggs

Guillen

Thames

Anderson

Thomas

Raburn

Wilkin

Clevlen

Even Hessman and Larish can play a little LF, if needed.

No thanks on Holliday.

I agree, we just don't need to bring Beltre aboard, especially while Inge is completely blowing away anything he's ever done before (he's doing way better than 06).

Wouldn't mind picking up Holliday over the winter. I think the Tigers have a 3 million buyout on Mag's contract at the end of the year or pay him $15mil for next year. Right now he's not playing like a 15 mil/yr player.

We do have marcus hopefully coming back. I cant beleive the normally smart athletics would trade for him knowing he sucked away from the thin air.

I wouldnt make a move 4 any1 until its later in the season and if we have a need we will go after it then. lets try and get our guys going 1st b4 we shake stuff up. i think with all our big moves and some being busts the past few season we r going to be more apprehsive to make a move, even a small 1.
