If Dom returns, then it is Dom...and when he leaves it is Legace. Manny has earned it and should have been named starter when Dom retired.

Yeh, I was a little disappointed when they signed Cujo. I thought Legacy deserved a shot. Hopefully thats the way it turns out. With Legacy starting that gives Stefan Liv a shot at the back-up for some seasoning.

I really think that the Redwings organization knew why they signed Cujo, i'm pretty positive sure they would've given Manny a chance if they knew he could handle it. People see him play a few games here and there and automatically assume he can handle sixty games a year. I think that is why coaches and gm's make decisions for the team.

I voted to trade them both and play Legace. I think the reason Hasek wants to come back is to garner publicity for his clothing line that he is trying to get going over here in North America. I understand it does well in Eastern Europe but that does not mean it will do well over here. Maybe he has been advised that playing will get him lots of free advertising and create a buzz for his product.

I'd rather use the 16mil to keep Federov, McCarty and Yzerman and take what is left and sign a cuople solid (not stellar) free agents.

Sorry HG, didn't see your post above. I'm not questioning Kenny Holland at all. He went out and got the best available goaltender with playoff experience. It just turned out that the change of scenery didn't change the fact that he's not a playoff goaltender and was not capable of outplaying the goaltender at the other end. Legace was not going to be an option this year because of the money given to Joseph, but when it comes down to it, with the possibility of Hasek coming back for only one year, Holland will be very comfortable with the idea of having to turn to Legace in the future.

Vas, I never said that playing hockey guarantees someone of being an expert on the game, but for you to call yourself an expert without ever playing it is laughable... ESPECIALLY for goaltending. There are thousands of armchair hockey experts in this town.

Oblong, what the hell are you even talking about? I never compared my play to anything. Sit down and stop trying to take everything the wrong way.

Oh yeah, and HG, your post loses its credibility when all you do is resort to an immature personal attack.

MCO...

I don't think you are in a position to make judgements about maturity.

As for my opinion on the matter? Take Dom, if he wants to play. Deal Cujo.

Dom is still one of the top five goalies in the world, and seems to be a better clutch goalie than Cujo.

Now, I haven't played the game, so take my OPINION for what its worth. Not much.

" but for you to call yourself an expert without ever playing it is laughable... "

Laughable is making things up off of the top of your enormous over-sized head. Where the hell have I EVER remotely called myself a hockey expert?

Argue what's really there. I can deal with your absurd BS when it at least mildly deals with reality. Play between the lines or go the F home. I'm a hockey fan with an opinion and nothing more, and I have never said I was anything more. I used "hockey snob" in a different thread, but I use that term the way people are "movie snobs" or "music snobs" or anything. Basically it is just my favorite hobby by a mile and that is about all that term means to me.

Virtually everything you have said here is BS, outside of your direct comments about hockey.

Clearly up above Oblong wasn't comparing Scotty Bowman to anybody. He was using him because you pretty much insinuated that you played goalie, so you know more than anyone who has not played it. Scotty Bowman would be included in that group.

HG doesn't lose credibility for stating the obvious.

When the most intelligent reply someone can give to one of my statements is a personal attack, then of course their maturity comes into question. But that's beside the point of this thread so how about we just let that die a long slow agonizing death.

And honestly, who cares about opinions. Everybody has them about crap they don't have a realistic picture of. Ok, this topic has become the proverbial dead horse.

The only person who has deemed himself an expert is you, MCO. What I think is laughable is that you think that by playing low level goalie you gain some kind of insight into how talented professional goalies are. Thats silly. I believe I was the person who called Vas an expert, and maybe oblong, and I still stand by the fact that he knows more about the game of hockey than pretty much any two people on this board put together.

Hey fruity... check out these quotes I found:

Speaking as a goaltender, and a hockey snob that actually plays the game (sorry Vas)...
I don't believe you can have a realistic idea about the position unless you've played it.

Aside from the just plain dumb statements above, your comments on Joseph are all the proof we need about your alleged hockey expertise.

Now go back to that shithole in Syracuse and keep Detroit clean.

Back on the goalie subject... after considering the financial implications, and the fact that if we chose Cujo, Hasek would likely end up in Denver, I'd probably have to change my vote to Hasek. It's a really complex situation.

Yeah, this thread has devolved into just MCO-bashing. Simply stunning.

Vas, you've admitted to it before. Anytime someone has a position opposite yours or questions you, and you fly off the handle. Case in point, your last post.

Mike, I don't recall even talking about my own hockey playing much more than I was a goaltender and that in my opinion you can't make a realistic assessment of the position without playing it. That's not exactly an 'out-there' statement.

Can we let this die now?

You don't even say anything on topic anymore, do you? It's just poor attempts at insults, eh?

One thing to remember with Cujo in his supposed "no trade clause" is that the Wings have all the leverage with him, since they can expose him to the worst teams in hockey (waiver draft); or he can choose to be traded to a better team, such as the Rangers, Flyers, or even the Avalanche.

"Can we let this die now?"

as soon as you stop making things up. I have never once in my lifetime called myself an expert on any subject, or implied it.

I flew off the handle because I'm sick of you making crap up. Find me examples of the things you accuse me of please. You'll say it isn't worth your time, but the truth is that it isn't possible.

No Vas, he's moved on now. He's the victim, remember? Jump in, start a fire, then claim the issue is over. Poor little MCO gets picked on. Well, Daddy isn't here to make things all better for you. You'll have to fight your own battles, son. That's life in the real world.

Regner was pretty adamant that the deal was done. This has to suck for Joseph after leaving Toronto the way he did. Now imagine if Hasek changes his mind or something isn't worked out and he's a FA. Joseph is left on a team in an awkward situation.

To be honest, I don't think it'll matter. If we have to rely on the goalie to get us over the top, then that means the rest of the team isn't playing as well as they could and at that point you are just gambling anyway. 2002 is a great example. A skip here and there and the Avs win in 6. Suddenly Hasek is a choker.

I don't think it's totally fair to say Joseph isn't a playoff gaolie. He has single handedly, or close to it, won series in the past. He has never been on a team good enough to win a Cup or go to the Finals even, except of the Wings last year, and I don't think we make it out of that first round with Dom in net either.

Ask Toronto how they feel about Cujo. He was one of the only reasons they made it to the conference finals against Carolian, with a injured (broken?) hand.

He put on goaltending clinics vs. Dallas and Colorado while with Edmonton.

I'm not saying he's one of the top few goaleis, but I believe he is easily good enough to win a Cup with on a good team.

... thought I'd add an non-sequitor here, if I may.

I was at my parents house, looking for something in one of their upstairs closets, which used to be my brother's room.

Although I didn't find what I was looking for, I found some pictures he had in a manila envelope (no, not porn), I guess torn from some magazines.

One of them was Eddie Giacomin.....old Ranger goalie.

I remember when he played - no masks in those days ......

Man, talk about scars all over your face ! And an obviously broken nose that had "healed" into bizarre new shapes, etc.

Those goalies, "pre-mask", were a different breed, no?

I mailed my brother the folder, for his amusement.

This must go down as the thread of the year. There was more smack laid down on this thread than an entire Jim Rome show. Congrats to all of those who made this possible.
