Pistons Trade deadline ideas

Recommended Posts

I'm all for shipping Sheed for a 1st rounder. Here's something from my post earlier today:

"They were talking about this on the radio yesterday. One of the ideas mentioned was to trade Sheed to a team that wants cap relief for a contract that expires in 2010 and a 1st round draft pick. That way you move cap to the better free agent year, acquire a young player in the process, and remove Sheed. Sounds good to me. I mean honestly, we're fighting for a 5 or 6 seed right now, we might as well think ahead at this point and not worry about Sheed showing up to help us win 1 out of every 5 games."

See, I could understand that. But some of these other proposals are completely off the wall IMO.....

The title of this thread includes the phrase "trade ideas".

Instead of coming in here and just saying how ridiculous every idea is, actually throw one out there yourself. Please.

And Sheed & Rip for Chandler & Peja.....that had to be a joke.....

It's a joke because they'd never take the trade. As a Piston, I'd do it in a second.

This team has no 3 point threats, and nobody to back up Tay. You handle both of those issues with Peja. You also clear up the log jam at SG by moving Rip. Adding Tyson gives you a rebounding/shotblocking center, who's athletic as heck. You start Stuckey, AI, Tay, Amir, and Chandler. That team can get out and run, they can rebound, and you have the perfect front-court to play with a guy like AI. Peja comes off the bench for a scoring punch. Going forward you still have money this off-season to go after a skills big man (Boozer) to put along side your hustle big-man (Chandler). You also pick up either a true PG or a 3-point SG with your exemption/draft (or start Afflalo as a defensive specialist/three point shooter). Next year you start Stuckey, (FA/draft/Afflalo), Tay, Boozer, and Chandler. Solid.

I didn't say anything about trades being ridiculous.....I just said some of them are off the wall.....

Your proposal of Sheed & Rip for Chandler & Peja is pretty ridiculous though.....and the only reason I haven't made a proposal is because I really don't know who is seriously on the block that would help us. Like I said, I wouldn't be opposed to trading Sheed for something like betrayer said, a first rounder & maybe some expiring contract in 2010. But your proposal is completely one sided, and I'd take it in a second, but if you really made that offer to the Hornets, you'd get laughed at. If someone is going to make a trade proposal, I'd just hope that it would be something along the lines of reasonable.....otherwise, what's the point of taking the proposal seriously?

I'm not so sure that New Orleans would automatically scoff at the idea either.

Rip would be the perfect SG compliment to Chris Paul. Paul needs the ball in his hands and Rip doesn't. I think that backcourt would be very deadly.

Also, with Sheed expiring after the season, they could replace Chandler's inside presence and Peja's 3 pt shooting in one signing: Mehmet Okur.

Okur, West, Posey, Rip, Paul + Mo Pete, Armstrong, Wright... that's a nice team.

SOAP BOX: See, the trade ideas I'm throwing out are actually thought through a little bit. They are based on the Trade Machine telling me the salaries match, players I'd like to see on the Pistons and players who are actually obtainable. I haven't yet suggested a trade that is anything remotely like Amir for Garnett. I'm trying to inject some creativity into one of these threads and all I get in return is a bunch of jerks telling me my ideas are lame. Please, if you're going to tell me how stupid I am, at least suggest a trade that makes more sense.

1) GET RID OF SHEED. Try to acquire a younger center/PF who will rebound and NEVER take a 3 pt shot in a Pistons uniform. Hopefully this center/PF would be under contract for a few years. Players who fit what I'd like in a Piston: Tyson Chandler, David Lee, Spencer Hawes, Andris Biedrins, Chris Kaman, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Joel Pryzbilla.

Hawes has taken 58 3's (in 41 games) so far this year and Bosh has put up 30. Not exactly Sheed numbers, but they don't really fit what you're looking for in that sense.

Yeah, I know. I was just throwing out names.

And I guess I shouldn't have bolded/said never. A few is ok. 3 times more 3 pt attempts than FT attempts, not ok.

I didn't mean ridiculous as a personal insult. I just think you were overvaluing 'sheed/rip a little bit, add that I'm in the stay put and make the two big signing camp, I just don't think you take on any money that isn't immediately coming off the books. Furthermore, I want to see what afflalo, will bynum do with a full ration of minutes and season fully put in the rotation.

Again with saying I've said something that I haven't.....please point out where I said how stupid you are.....

You've made a decent point, but I still don't think the Hornets would make that trade. Sheed doesn't exactly have the best reputation in the league, and he doesn't quite compare to what Chandler does for that team. Rip would definitely be a nice compliment for Paul, but again, he doesn't bring the same thing to the court that Peja does. On top of that, I haven't heard anything about Chandler and/or Peja being shopped around, and although it's creative, as a Pistons fan I feel it's one sided, and I'm pretty sure Hornets fans & the organization would feel the same. Giving up a young Center in his prime, and one of the best pure shooters in the game for an old expiring contract of a non-true Center & Rip just doesn't sound like a deal they'd take.....

"Chandler does for that team"

Please note that this year, chandler does nothing for that team. Last year, great young player, this year...A less impressive marcin gortat

I think the Pistons already made their deal, clearing out Billups contract. We can see the effect it's had on the locker room, so I don't think they'll move another starter. I also think Afflalo is exactly the kind of player Curry wants on this team. If he's sent packing, it could be bad news for the head coach.

Ok, you didn't say 'stupid'. But there was definitely some condescension in there.

I agree, NO would most likely not go for that trade. I was throwing out an idea based more on who I'd like to see on the Pistons than how much the GM of the Hornets values Chandler & Peja.

BTW, I'm all for trading Sheed for some picks. I have no clue how or if that would actually work, but it sounds good to me.

Also BTW, I fully expect this team to remain unchanged until their 1st round exit in this summer's playoffs. I really don't see any trades being made and I think Joe D will be pretty content to just let all that cap space open up and go shopping for free agents.

Its suspected Chandler or Peja are on the block. Hornets are up against the luxury tax and need to cut salary. Both make over $12 million next year, so they are both prime candidates.

Very true. His numbers this year are down across the board (blocks are up slightly). IMO the only reason his numbers were up last year was because of the emergence of Chris Paul.

The one guy I would like to see in a Pistons uniform who might be available is Chris Kaman. Last year at this time, he would have been untouchable but a poor second half last year and then the injury this year might make him available.

I am not sure why Tayshaun gets a free pass from Pistons fans. IMO, he is an average starting small foward. Personally, I would use him as trade bait because I think he could bring more value in return than he provides in real life.

Dumars better be careful if he's seriously trying to set himself up for the big FA class. Stuckey, Curry and all the money in the world won't get them even a sniff. If that's not the plan than I'd prefer Dumars working under the radar for pieces to the puzzle, sort of like how he initially put the Pistons together.

Sheed, Amir, and a #1 pick to Toronto for Bosh. Maybe Toronto would consider making this trade as Bosh contract is expiring 2010 and they will want to get something for him while his value is high.

I'd do it in a heartbeat if we could get Bosh to sign a contract extension.

Toronto won't trade Bosh until next February and only then if they are convinced they are going to lose him.

Toronto would never do that. I imagine that IF they were going to deal Bosh, any deal would start with Sheed, Stuckey and a #1.

you cant really think that currys going to be around that long can you? at best he will get canned after next year when we sign the huge free agent eg lebron (not likely) wade, bosh etc

How about AI to Philly for Elton Brand?

Now I doubt he is on the block, but things haven't worked out all that great for him in Philly. They seemed to play a lot better when he was injured. Maybe they would look to move him to get away from his contract. Entice them with a 1st round pick maybe.

Injury prone a little the past few years, but his contract isn't that bad compared to what you will see the next two summers.

Before people go crazy and ask why Philly would do this. It would be for one reason only. Admitting it was a mistake to sign him and it wasn't working out, and this is a way to get out from under it. It would basically give them back his cap space to try again this summer.
