Should Lions draft quarterback in first round?

Recommended Posts

What? You said it to begin with. I was just making the point that there is no such thing as a sure thing.

I won't use your name in quotes anymore, if it makes you feel better?

The Lions have two first round picks, don't they? I can't TOTALLY rule out drafting a QB in the first round with two picks. Quite frankly, I'm not sure I could rule it out if the Lions had ONE first round pick.

Should they? Not necessarily. But if they got a monster DE and ended up with a good QB like maybe Stafford from Georgia late in the first round, I wouldn't whine too much.

I would take the best two defensive guys I could find, almost regardless of position; but if like, Sam Bradford or somebody dropped down that was impossible to turn down, I might pull the trigger with a late first round pick, yeah.

That monster DE does not exist in this draft. If Stafford doesn't go one, he'll likely go two. Matt Stafford is the "Stephen Strasburg" of this draft. Bradford is definitely #2, but not in the same stratosphere. The Lions are sitting pretty, and will have the best draft easily this year. They have too many quality picks not to.
