John Smith

Detroit Lions @ Oklahoma Sooners (In Norman)

Wow...are we serious?

It's men vs. boys. There are players on Oklahoma's squad that haven't finished growing yet. There's a reason most rookies don't contribute right away in the NFL (especially offensive and defensive linemen). The worst players on the Lions could start for any Division I college.

Who covers Calvin Johnson? Who blocks Ernie Sims on a blitz? The Lions, even as a crappy defensive team, still run defensive coverages, blitz packages, and line stunts which Bradford doesn't even dream about.

If we're putting together a college all-star team, and giving them a few weeks of practice...then I might give them a chance.

Lions win this game huge. Bradford can't throw when he's backpedaling all day.

I disagree. Oklahoma has a better offensive line. A better QB, they're good at TE, WR, RB, DLine, LB, and DB's. The Lions couldn't keep up right now. Bradford would pick them apart, especially with college rules/hashmarks. On a pro field, it would be closer, but the Lions couldn't play with them.

12/06/08 vs. Missouri (Big 12 Title) Kansas City, Mo. W, 62-21

I know Oklahoma has an exciting team but look at the points they are giving up. The last 8 college opponents have averaged 31 points a game on them. I don't think they are going to be able to outscore Florida.

Depends on who has Burrows.

Alternately, how many starting players on any given college team are regularly starting in the NFL within 3 years of that season?

I didn't look it up, but how did the 2008 Sooners fare on that metric?

Sam Bradford

Phil Loadholt

Trent Williams

Demarco Murray

Jermain Gresham

Gerald McCoy

A few others has some playing time as reserves, but those were the major players who got significant time in the NFL from that team.  Not bad.  Also, not enough to remotely challenge the worst NFL team that season.

  • Thanks 1
